Intel Core 2 Quad Q8000 - The 'low-cost' quad CPU

i don't like this business of half-multipliers, etc, and IMO that would require an overly high FSB - i prefer high multi low FSB OCing, but that's just me. Anyways, i don't see this as being much of a deal, and especially not if it comes in at the same price as the Q6600 is now...

Okay best deal is the fact they are dropping the price of the q6600 to get rid of stock ;)

I missed the reduced cache when I posted earlier. Was expecting it to be 10% quicker clock per clock but perhaps won't be.

That and the low multi will mean for overclocking it won't be as good as the q6600.

Not a bad budget buy for somebody wanting a quad and a small overclock of 3-3.2Ghz though.

Perfectly true Greebo. But let's face it, on an overclcocking forum like this, who's seriously going to be happy with 3/3.2ghz ? I don't think that many will get trampled in the rush :D

Yep. So once the suppliers have run out of stock of the q6600, the cheapest quad for the serious overclocker has to be the Q9450? Although the 8x multiplier looks as though it could be a problem for some boards. How long before the price drops?
