Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550

Hm, I am going to try manual configuration for the voltages settings, one boy told me that this mobo is "notorious for setting extremely high voltages", maybe I will get 4.0GHz... My biggest dream:)

Hi, i have a q9550 at 4GHz, it wasnt that hard to get there. 1.39vcore, CPU PLL at
1.55v , and bus at 470MHz, tell me how you get on. Oh, and I have a Titan Fenrir which keeps the cores down to 40degrees.

I have a HAF much better than the armor tbh, my temps @3.83 is a range from 35c-40c
I presume this is at idle - and load temps?

Am running Haf myself with Titan Fenrir - Q9550 @3.4 on an asus P5Q- E. Temps 36c idle & 52c load - Fenrir fitted with Tuniq fan running at 1/2 speed.

Roughly 2c-3c less than when I was running in old Stacker case @ same speed with P5K Prem motherboard. - Would give most of 'loss' in Temps to case rather than cooler.

Using both boards o'clock was simple:-
1. Increase fsb to 400
2. Set cpu voltage @ 1.1875 in Bios (vid is 1.2375)
3. Fix ram as ddr2 1066 running with 2.1v - which I have 2x2gb of .

Runs on both boards nice & stable, cool and quiet.

Did try at 3.6 and 3.8 with 'old' board . As I did not see any better performance betwwen 3.4 & 3.6 decided not to bother (wasn't worth xtra volts which I had to give it /heat/noise). Although 3.8 was attainable I decided I was not happy with the increased temps that I was getting when I increased the v. to 1.2375 (which I had to to get it to boot into windows) and which failed prime after 5min or so anyway (more v. needed):(

With new board have had it running at 3.6 & 3.8 just to see if it would -it does but at cost of increased temps or noise , which at the moment I would prefer to do without .Will probably leave it till later in the year to give it a proper go but would be very interested if ,Raphus, you can keep us advised as to your progress(with details of v.used in different areas - partic. if you can find how to find out what volts the northbridge is running at whwen on auto and how manually to adjust this to the 'best' level as I haven't found it yet !!:o

Currently testing my q9550 at 3.8 ghz in an asus p5q deluxe, load temps are, 57-53-48-48. Cooled by a TRUE black with 2 sharkoon silent eagle 400-1200 rpm pwm fans, may switch them out for a pair of 2000 rpm silent eagles to drop the temps a bit, regarding NB volts, i have mine at 1.26, FSB TERM, 1.26 and PLL, 1.54, ram volts at 2.02, its not reccomended to run the p5q range on auto or lowest manual volts as they overvolt a lot.

ideal yes, load depends on how hot the room is, under normal condistions with prime I m looking at 65c other cores about 60c

Cooled by a Titan TTC-NK85TZ Fenrir but my case is an Antec Sonata III, not the best case for 2 x 4890's in Crossfire and an O/C-ed Q9550.....looking to get a Antec 902 or something similar a.s.a.p.

OK, AgedIdiot and other, in manual mod I have Vcore voltage just around 1.175V! Really cool, stock volt was 1.2V, and I have overclocked my Quad to 3.83GHz with setting lower voltage! :D Great!
But, another thing is that I still can't reach 4.0GHz :( I was playing with my proc all day, but with no result. Vcore 1.2...1.3...1.4...1.5...1.55!!! - nothing. PLL 1.5...1.6...1.7! - nothing. VTT 1.3-1.4 - no result. NB voltage was from 1.5 to 1.7! - result was the same :( With 1.45 Vcore, 1.6 PLL, 1.4 VTT, 1.6235 NB I have started Windows only, but in Prime95, OCCT and other bench tools work was unstable. BSOD 0x0124 all the time or dead freeze. So, I think that 470MHz is FSB upper limit for my motherboard, not proc, becouse for 3.83GHz I need 1.175V and for 4.0GHz (170MHz difference only!) Vcore is 1.45V! It's awful! (And 0x124 BSOD all the time, WTF?)
But then, now my Idle temps are about 35-37*C with so low Vcore! :) And under heavy game load (GTA IV, STALKER CS etc.) just 48-52!:p Cool, really cool! Maybe, if I got another mobo, I would OC this great copy of Q9550 higher...
Coming soon... ;)

Idle around 31 - 37, not over clocked and have speed-step on. Not uber temps BUT when under load they don't go up much, still well under 60, plus my room is very wamr most of the time

- Pea0n

Mine idles at 33-30-34-36 on my simple water loop, that's at 3.8ghz and 1.32 vcore. On air (Scythe Infinity) it was ~ 10 degrees higher on all cores.

After all the problems i was having with temps ,I was thinking well v8 and side fan wont go so i done a mod to fix that problem and here are the images to it .

Now getting 46c from 52c and gpu was at 55 now at 46c idle ,

cpu full load go's to only 52c now where it was that idle before mod and gpu was at 80 full load now only go's 60c or 65c some times .

And hope u like the mod :D i know i do .

Looks good. Did you put the window in yourself? Have never seen that. I wouldn't be able to do that, have sound proofed everything around the fan :)
