Intel Core i5 @ 41*C Idle?

At the end of the day it depend's on your room temperature(ambient temp), what your i5 idle temp + load temp are.

Was your idle temp lower say a month ago > lower?
If it was your room temp has gone up. As the warmer weather come's in your temp's will rise.

Also when was the last time you cleaned the inside of your PC, Fan Filter's ,etc?

You might consider a better CPU Cooler, that will also bring your temp's down, especially if you are going to overclock your CPU.:)

thanks for your replies and I apologise for not posting earlier but i wasn't home.

CPU is at stock and the PC was build last friday so everything is new. including the thermalpaste.

I am waiting for a Hiper 212 Plus but it's currently out of stock from my local shop. (shipping will be too expensive to buy from OCUK)

load tempsare raughly 75-85*C

You've probably not locked it right.

Take the cooler off, and examine how the turning clips work and lock.

The lock should mean it stays down. Yes it's badly designed by intel as your only meant to turn the lock 75% the way round.

Mine is running at 41c idle when its slightly hotter ambient with a 3.7ghz overclock and a schythe zipang 2 cooler so that does seem high. Check its attached properly.

Dont want to hijack thread but, im in uk and i have similair problem, the stock cooler is just bad.

at idle here you go;

i have 3 case fans, one apache at the front, one sharkoon blowing at cpu from the side, and one cooler master sucking out at the back. not to mention powersupply.

Disagree, my i5 750 never went over 60 with the stock cooler.

Make sure you have installed the cooler correctly, like I said before, a full turn will not lock it. I made the mistake recently with my e6600, and it was hitting 80c under prime. But I made sure to lock it down right and it now never goes over 55c.

Stock heatsinks work as they are supposed to.

Correct lock position on my q9550 stock:

i just took the case out, undone it all and checked and i can assure you its locked. the stock cooler is just crap.

Then why did I get better performance on my i5 750 with a stock cooler?
Why does every review show no problem with the stock cooler?

Also have you tried realtemp? http://www.techpowerup.com/realtemp/

Also check there is no wobble on the heatsink, and that none of the pins move up and down.

Whats the ambient temps though? I can speak from experience we have 30 i3s at work currently and on a fairly warm day the stock sink can top out at 80C easily, though the oem case cooling leaves something to be desired. We've got one i750 that tops out about 77C in an air conditioned room, though the aircon is struggling with 12 servers in it currently so is not exactly efficient but ambient is never over 22C.
