Hi All,

So I bought the above CPU from OC advertised as (Retail) the box its came was opened with the security seal broken and the whole packaging kinda squashed.

Is this how they are normally shipped out? the CPU itself looks untouched.

thanks guys :)

I thought as much, I have raised a WebNote with OC, hopefully they can advise and remedy this.

Best too send it back for a new one. but don't forget too claim back postage cost. Keep receipt of postage cost so you can send them a copy

I get a lot of stuff from OCUK that's already been opened. They need to sort it out. Luckily they are great at returns but its a hassle to have to do for their "mistake"

My Retail 5820k arrived in Squashed packaging recently but the box was still sealed luckily. All is good here running at 4.5Ghz no complaints I'm sure OCUK will sort this quickly for you any issues I had they were on it pretty quickly through Webnote. :)

How common is this?

I want to do an upgrade this year, but ill use another site if this is common, i would rather pay a little more knowing its 100% factory sealed.

Everything I've ever bought from OcUK as new, was. I've bought a few B-grade items from OcUK too (where I expected them to be opened), and all bar one of those had never been opened too. A few years ago, I bought 5 new motherboards from a large competitor for work, and all 5 had been opened with various little bits opened or missing.

You should be just a safe buying from OcUK as anywhere else for this kind of thing, from my experience. In fact, I prefer to buy from here over elsewhere as even if something does go wrong, I know Bailey, Damo and the posse on the Customer Service forum will sort me out as they always do, whereas the phone support I've had from other companies has always been variable at best.

Others may have a different experience with OcUK and other sites, but this has been mine.

True, the PSU tester i bought from Amazon was used when it arrived on Saturday, so I'm sending it back (Lucky it was used as I only needed to use it once)

Just I really don't expect a £100 - £300 product to arrive without a factory seal, with that kind of money if something goes wrong I need to know I can send it back with ease.

It's disappointing to think OcUK try and resell returned items that have been opened and hope the customer wont notice and send it back.

Well, whilst this might be the case, and if so it's pretty crappy, at least it still comes with the full warranty it should come with.

I wouldn't mind if something had been opened, though the issue is that you can't tell if it's been ragged or not, but for some items it wouldn't bother me as long as it appeared as new (think peripherals).

Don't some items get opened so that game codes can be put in the boxes?

I understand that you might be a bit miffed that you don't get to break the seal on your box yourself but it really shouldn't make any difference to you in the end as you still get the full warranty etc.

The 5820k that i bought from OCUK recently was in perfect shape and sealed. I would send it back if I was the OP.

never really had this. everything as always been sealed for me.

when buying B-Grade items look at the stock code if it started BG then its B-Grade, if it starts with anything other than BG that its a new old stock or discontinued item but will be new.

Sounds like a return that was accidentally put back on the shelf, can easily happen from time to time. OCUK shouldn't have any qualms accepting it back and sending a new one out.

They must accidentally put it back on the shelf very often then its happened to me as well and many others.
