INTEL CORE I7 970 3.20GHZ AND INTEL CORE I5 760 2.80GHZ LAUNCHED TODAY

what apps are you going to be using the gulftown for bulldog?

your 920 is a great chip [hand picked by yours truely] and should net you a good bit of cash back on the members market :)

I use alots of application, video encoding, photoshops, gaming, and so on. What voltage should I start off with 4.20Ghz (168x25) ? Any idea rich ? I probably find out tomorrow night, to see what vcore voltage is stable at most! (probably reduce 1.30v to around 1.28v) as you just metion that the i7 980x 32nm is lots cooler chip than the i7 920d0 45nm.

Some benchmarks!

CPC benchmark at 4.41GHz:

a Prime stable shot at 4GHz:

Enjoy!

I will not go over 1.35vcore and qpi vtt 1.35v (in bios) on this new cpu i7 980x
Are these ok ?

You can go up to 1.4 Vcore and over 1.5 for qpi for a 24/7 clock with no chance of damaging it. Obviously the lower voltage the better. You can go higher for short benching sessions but long term best to play it safe.

Many thanks :) I will ensure I get the most stable 4.4Ghz with a possible lower vcore voltage if I can. I try 176 x 25 = 4400Mhz with a possible 1.34vcore. I hope my board gigabyte ex58 ud5 will accept a multiplier of anything up to 25x.

get yourself on the latest ud5 bios now before you put the gulfie in
that way you dont risk it being out of date and needing to update [and swap cpus around]

I have updated my latest bios firmware version F12 (is that what you mean by that from F7 to F12) see my snapshot below:

Do I need to download real temp GT as I do have real temp version 3.40 ? Or was real temp v3.40 will auto detect i7 gulftown itself ?

A very fine processor I must say, including the i5 760 too. With me I would say that the i7 970 might be a good processor to replace my i7 960 if something better doesn't come out in 6+ months time; a bit pricy I must admit it, but then again it is as good, if not then it is an extreme processor as it does have the 6.4 GT/s QPI bandwidth like the other extreme processors including the 965, 975 and the 980X.

I would wait so I can get myself a i7 970 OEM when I got the money and of course, only if to me it is the best processor to buy for my needs too. ^^

As for the i5 760, my dad was thinking of getting the i5 750 soon since he wanted to see how great a real quad-core would perform, but then this came by so my dad is going to have a wait and see what else comes out soon; this processor seems to be very interesting to him as he is using a i7 860 which is also a 2.8GHz processor (same amount of cores two, but twice the threads per core) so he would like to do a comparison between the two and see their ups and downs.

I guess this is all I have to say for now. ^^

Still waiting for my brand new Intel i7 980X 'The Gulftown' Extreme Edition 3.33Ghz to come here shortly today :) I am too exciting just like waiting for xmas day presents! Thanks ocuk for a fast service! :)

My next target is a custom water-cooling is a must ! Sooner !
