Intel Core i7 "Haswell-E" to Launch in Q3 2014 an eight-core part around the $600 mark

With Haswell-E, Intel is expected to increase core counts across the board, launching an "affordable" six-core part around the $400 mark

Finally Intel six core cpu at affordable price of $400 or around £250!! (Hypothetically assuming exchange rate doesn't vary much next year :p)

But seriously if we are are getting Haswell E 6 cores around £250-£270, what would be the implications regarding say quad core Broadwell or Skylake, price wise, i.e. would the prices be lowered for mainstream quad core Broadwell & Skylake? (I know I am jumping the bandwagon, but interesting times ahead indeed )

Maybe worth not getting a new PC till then? No points asking about an upgrade my Rig is from Nov 2004....yes its that old. New PC next year to play DayZ and Elite!
Was thinking April but think I will wait now. Buying from here.

That never ever happens. $400 will mean we get it at around £350.

If we see the six-core at around 300, I would be quite interested. Starting to get back into PC gaming, so might have to save up till then.

Don't see that happening. Just no reason for them to reduce the price when a) people will pay silly money anyway, and b) AMD isn't offering any competition.

edit: plus its too close to their regular i7's normal RRP.

Anymore than 4 cores on a Haswell CPU may be more trouble than it's worth for gaming or even benching. The mainstream Haswell CPUs are not known for their overclocking abilities and if intel add another 4 cores without making some changes we could end up with an eight core CPU that struggles to get above 4.0ghz.

I hope I am wrong.

To be honest the performance increase since Sandy has frankly been a bit of a joke. If they struggle to add more performance on IPC, I guess more cores is the only way to go...but frankly, I don't see why it should deserve such high price premium...why should the consumers be paying the extra for Intel's incompentence to bring proper improvement to their new CPUs?

I'm with you on this, if the lowest Haswell -E is a 6 core and around £300, I'm going to go with that and 16GB / 32GB DDR4. I'll move up to an 8 core the following year when they shrink the next iteration of X99 chips down to 14nm.

Personally while this is great news, it will be he mainstream chips that come the year after that I will be looking for. A unlocked six core non hyperthreaded chip at under £200 (a i5 4670 is £190 ish) with hopefully by then some reasonably priced DDR.
