Intel dual core optimiser software?

Nope. AMD's is to fix design flaws in their dual core chips. Intel used a shared L2 cache so they didn't need to hack around with the Windows kernel or install API hooks to make software operate correctly with the Conroe.

Well, except that it's true... The AMD dual core chips require minor changes to make windows accept them due to the way they are designed, the Intel chips do not.

"Design flaws" has negative undertones I agree. I didn't mean it like that. AMD made some design decisions/trade offs (likely against time) when their dual core chips were still on the drawing board. There's nothing wrong with that, it's simply the business managers versus the techies.

Their K8L still doesn't have a shared L2 cache, but it does have a shared L3 cache - which is 'better' in some ways but worse for memory latency.

as much is my upgrading is going and my last intel was a p3 i stil love amd and am hezitating my upgrade to see what they bring out

I think they could do with it, I frequently see stuff lock up on my C2d while carrying out intensive tasks such as installing large apps and the cpu is doing very little yet opening something like IE is impossible. Could be poor nvidia 650 chipset drivers or vista 64 support but in general i'm so far not really that impressed by these C2D's yet.

Id say you have a conflict someware in your system.

Yes, Ageed.

I have 2GB of ram, an Nforce 650 ASUS P5N-E SLI motherboard and a E4300 overclocked well over 3000 MHZ... I never get problems opening stuff.

Maybe Pink has spyware/badinstall of windows/needs to defrag/another problem.

I am using Windows XP I admit, but everything is perfectly fine. Even running Photoshop with several large files open, Listening to music, several firefox windows, Adobe Bridge, and whatever else running.

What exactly does this update do, is it necessary for Core 2 Duo chips and XP operating systems? if this is an essential update, why isn't it streamed through windows update?
As it says i spose, i didnt notice any issues before or after i installed it but it must be there for a reason.

I installed it, but it didn't resolve my "5 sec freezing" problem when switching between apps. I did not notice any performance gains whatsoever..

hit Ctrl,Alt,Del and see what might be running in the background thats possibly interfearing.

I'm the same as you Pinkaardvark,

I've just upgraded to a core duo and while it is fast I often notice slowdown when multitasking and installing even when both CPU's are not doing much.

I thought things would be a lot faster with regards to this when compared to my old Athlon system.
