Memory, and Disk subsystems still come into play when heavily multi tasking, and or installing software. So if the CPU cores are idle, and the PC still feels slow, then look at the rest of the computer and try to find out whats wrong.

Yes as I said I was pointing the finger at the 650 nvidia chipset/sata drivers possibly. I only have a single 320 16mb cache samsung but still that should be enough to cope, and I doubt I have any conflicts as apart from a graphics card there is nothing else plugged into my motherboard. Will see if it improves with newer vista 64 drivers for chipset etc.
