Why are people running these things so slow?
I ran my 6400 @ 3.8ghz

Troll!!
Just read the other threads that you posted the same thing in. If you think you can do better then get one yourself.![]()
I'm tempted...over on XS they seem to be getting 4ghz. Was just wondering that all... Bad batch?
Can you lend me yours?![]()

Perhaps cos I've only got a P965 can't say I'm overly impressed. Will only do 3GHz on stock volts (VID=1.225) and currently 3.5GHz (350x10) at Intels recommended max (1.36v in CPU-Z, 1.4v in bios). RAM 1:1 on tighter timings seems a little better than running faster with relaxed timings. In P45 mobos, I've only a lowly P35![]()

It's a fair enough question from easyrider but I have to agree with Mrjobby's reply, as much a fan of Prime95 I am the simple fact is IBT heats up a processor several degrees more than Prime ever could!Prob because people test chips with intel burn test now, i could run orthos for days on a rig that ibt would fail all tests.
And most people run on air.

3800MHz @ 64°C = Pass!
3800MHz @ 70°C = Fail!
So an overclocked chip that was Prime stable but not IBT stable could still run for days and days rock solid until the point the thermal spec is exceed and . . .fail!
Luckily for people owning custom water cooling systems this point isn't as relevant as they don't have to worry about temps as much as the humble air cooling person however if the water cooled system continue to have it's vCore pumped it too will become unstable! (i.e an uber water cooled system can only only disapate so much heat, as the vCore goes up so does the waste heat etc etc)
I have no science training and therefore don't know how to explain this phenomena but It's real and is the enemy of everyone who overclocks!
Thing is, the whole argument is almost m00t as 97.6% of the population will never be able to perform real world tasks that can load up the CPU as much as the engineers tool IBT.
Prime95 is still very relevant and is less an engineers tool and more a real-world users stress test as games and stuff if multithreaded can load up a CPU about as much as prime!
I'm tempted to pick one of these up to replace my e4300, as it uses a little less power... Is there a certain stepping which is best like with the E0's of the e8x00 family?
I'm happy with 3GHz, I just want to run it passive!![]()
Cheers... Nice review. I'm not too worried about if I can get it to 4GHz, but I'd like one with a low VID as I like my cpu fan to spin as slowly as possible. There are better batches than others as Big.Wayne has one that likes a higher fsb than mine. For a comparison to a E4300 see my attempt at a review.

I wonder . . . could the Costa Rica chips be uBer or bOOber!

I'll get one installed tomorrow hopefully . . .Guy Fawks night! . . . bodes well for big overclocks!![]()
Pity you don't have an E5200 Bruce 'easyrider' Lee
I mean you got a high end water cooling system and a vCore fetish, could be a laugh!![]()
Why not retail?
He's being a tight git.
Are'nt they all made in Costa Rica? Mine is too.
I read somewhere that a few OEM 5200's were about and they were getting nice clocks.
