Intel E8400 or E8500?

I seen the opposite on XS, all the high clocks were on E8500's so much so, the Geeks thought Intel were keeping the Cherry Picked Cores for E8500's.

On top of that some cant get mad high FSB out of their Mobos so the extra Half Multi's helps.

You get good and bad batches of any model, I seen a E8200 at 4GHZ with 1.2v over on XS.

Buy what you can afford, if you think you will benefit from the Higher Multi as your not getting a high FSB on your Mobo etc.

Some of the peeps giving you advise do not even own any E8000 CPU.

Main rig is currently running a modded Asus P5K Premium and 4 sticks of Crucial 10th Anniversary ram. Probably the only person to still have working 10th Anni's  love them to bits though!

Mine work! I recently swapped em out for 4GB of OCZ stuff though, which doesn't overclock a damn unlike the 10th Anni's :(

E8400 all the way. E8500 is a complete waste of money and clocks no better (in a lot of cases a lot worse) than a E8400. Right from launch i have seen better clocks with lower volts on the E8400.
I see many people getting between 4.2ghz to 4.5ghz with e8500 cpu's,,,,,

but i don't see hardly anyone with over 4Ghz with the e8400 cpu's (most seem to be around 3.8Ghz)

I suppose it comes down to the batch the chip comes from. It's all luck at the end of the day.

My e8500 is sat at 1.26v for 3.8ghz. Could probably run it lower but haven't tried as my temps/stability are fine. I'd be amazed if it couldn't get past 4ghz before it even reached 1.3v.

I was fortunate enough to pick it up for £160 delivered (2nd hand) but i'd probably recommend the e8400 if buying new. Although to be quite honest the e8200 would be equally good as most decent boards manage 500mhz fsb clocks these days meaning 4ghz is well within sight.

Some good pointers lads....... so when are we gonna see the E8500 "Wolfdales" back with normal prices. Also any ideas when the Q9450 are gonna be back on the shelves?

Original E8500 @ 1.296v for a 4.1 gig clock. Rock solid since launch. A friend has a E8400 doing the same however. Anythink higher requires nearer 1.4 volts, and i aint going there !

the Q9450's are in stock if you look around, but i don't think theres any where near the demand for them that folk expected, they seem to be a tad underwhelming tbh.
