Just saw this interesting article PC Advisor apparently Intel's eight-core chip which is code-named Nehalem-EX due in first half of this year

lol most games struggle to fully utilise 2 cores, the only games that would require 8 cores anytime soon are really badly programmed ones

Could you say where the incompatibility lies Jokester? I'm guessing it relies on a different socket or chipset to the current desktop X58 boards, but am having a hard time confirming through Google.

Well they're rumoured to support 4-way operation, so a total of 32 physical cores, plus another 32 with hyperthreading.

Supposedly!

It won't be affordable for me anyway, so I'm hoping that they release the more affordable (but still expensive!) i7-970 that's been planned for later this year.

Someone's put a release price of $562 on Wiki for it (vs $999 for the i7-980X), which works out at about £360. I can't really seeing it being available for that price though, I think £450 is more of a reasonable expectation.
