Intel explains Quad delays

Sounds odd to be, ill be getting my new kit come late Feb so can only hope they arrive but if not then hey the 8400 will still maul most of the quads in 90% general use and even in 99% of games :)

Sounds like crap to me. They just don't need to release them yet and that's fair enough, just don't see why they'd want to cover it up.

Of course there is the possibility that they're speaking the truth, but I just don't see how that'd be the case when a Yorkfield QX9650 has been out for weeks and is "unaffected".

Still, I'm happy with my Q6600 for now :)

Does it really matter?

The current tech is good enough, so what if they delay by up to 2 months. If it is an excuse, so what? It's better to give an problem than to say, nah! sorry guys, we're going to delay the shipment for a while cos all AMD could show up with was a Phailure.

On the other hand, if it is a real issue, wouldn't you prefer to have it sorted?

I wonder if amd serposid "problems" which are "fixable" are infact just their design being a very bad overclocker and they are trying to cover up that because they said they would have fix's out by now. Intel perhaps know this and are holdign back because of it. if amd really have screwed up then it could take yearas to get a decent quad out.

intel are really in to this Tick-tock.

"If the 'tock' team misses a target date, it doesn't affect the 'tick' team."

maybe the tock team needs wound up again.

" The quad-core 45nm Extreme Edition processor launched in November 07 is also unaffected."

How can the stepping change that much since november, that they mess it up on a later product.

innovate?

You want a company to lie to you then ? Were this the case I'd be even less likely to buy from Intel as I neither like being manipulated nor lied to.

If the rumours are true, it seems to be not so much that the QX9650 is unaffected, but being an enthusiast chip, it is being run on high end 6 layer motherboards. The problem manifests itself when the 45nm chips are run on cheaper 4 layer boards, which being more mainstream and also likely destined for OEM manufacturers, might be the case.

Anyone got a QX9650 and cheap board to test this out ?

o please look at the big picture. Do you really think everything you hear and read is true? do you think AMD are saints? As i said above its been so long since their serposid fix that i think they lied and there isn't one they just cocked their design up and it could take years to get a new one that works.

The majority of stuff you are fed in your daily lives are twisted truths or lies and your complaining about intel not wanting to release a new product when they dont have to?

If you hadn't noticed we dont even need any more cpu power for gaming. only a few people doing really heavy decoding need it. if you hadn't noticed a q6600 clocked at 3.0ghz is by far fast enough for all games out now. you dont need new processors and they arn't going to release them untill there is some competition. they are just going to refine it to be better which in my view is a lot better then releasing one when they dont need to.

Stop your moaning!

But what about synthetic benchmarks, why bother using your PC for useful stuff when you can run SuperPi, Nuclearus, PcMark, Sandra etc? It's all the fun you'd ever need! Well worth the few hundred quid for a new CPU...
