Intel explains Quad delays

your right i forgot about all those spending their life in the pointless search for who can run their chip the fastest for no reason when cpu's are miles ahead of the rest of the pc. Hard drives are the furthest

what makes you say that? solid state has just come out and thats gonna change everything.

hows this? a shop keeper friend?

Mate in Taiwan.

Don't get your hopes up for these Quads. They still run toasty and the guy I know only got 3.8Ghz out an ES Q9450 only a fraction faster than the Q6600 clocks he got (this wasn't down to any motherboard limitation). They're also going to be expensive.

He's advised me to go for the E8400 over anything atm and he's very much "In the know"

I could easily get one off him but I'm going to take his advice

Which IMO is expensive when they look like they're going to be crap. From what I've seen and heard.

He also advised me it runs HOT. I'm skipping this lot. Wolfdale F.T.W.

thats gona be a blow to all those wanting them. I tbh dont care about them because no game needs a q6600 runnings faster then mmm 3ghz at the moment? perhaps 3.2ghz anything over is just excess. I think a q6600 at 3.6ghz should last at least another year and ahalf but who knows?

Knows people at Asus. He has ES, retail have obviously been delayed till March time.

One thing I have now learnt, is these Quads are massively overrated

Easy guys... Why are you lot overlooking the hushed in Xeons by Apple ?

The mac-pro(2.8ghz) runs 2xE5462s read the specs...

From first hand experience and benches a single core 2.8ghz equates to the same performance as a conroe core at 3.2ghz. This is what I have observed anyway and what the hell 8 cores is dirt cheap as well.

H'mm not according to this it isn't, it states here that a Q9450 runs a lot cooler in comparison with a Q6600 & thats overclocked. LINK

Just for info the highest achievable clock on the Q9450ES on the above link was just over 3.8ghz - the x8 multi really lets it down.

Those results were on an Abit IX38 QuadGT, he is going to run the same results with an Abit IP35 Pro to see if he can get an higher FSB.

I didn't actually say the Q9450 runs hotter than the Q6600 did I?
lol. . . I'm not trying to prove you wrong don't worry, but clock for clock the right term I should have said was they are not as toasty in comparison to some random guy in Taiwan - he says they run hot - looks like he is wrong, although the term toasty is somewhat subjective.
Johnny Bravo said:
Check out that current rating with all four cores loaded, the Q9450 is drawing nearly half that of the Q6600. Add to this the fact that the Q9450 requires less voltage and it's safe to say that the Q9450 is a very efficient cpu. As a result the temperatures are a lot lower on the Q9450 when running all four cores - so less complicated cooling is required.

NOTE: The PWM's run cooler as well as the 4 cpu cores clock for clock on the Q9450 @ 3.6ghz.

Then I am misinformed or he has a naturally toasty running chip, Good news all the same, but the pricing and silly low multi puts me off.

how do you use taht abit thing? mine stops responding when i use it, its totaly useless and everyone i know who tries to use it cant on 64bit. I heard there waas a patch for it but couldn't even find it on their website so i just uninstalled it as its a pile of crap. Does it even give accurate results like everest?
