Both identical drives G2 intel 80GB


why is the laptop so slow?


IN pc the ssd is the only drive in the laptop I have a second 250GB mechanical drive could this be something to do with the speed?

I set the sata port to AHCI in bios before I installed win 7

I have a feeling its the bus now...Thought it was sata 2

My main rig with the same drive is sata 2 on X58 chipset


EDIT: wish I'd have benched my 7200 120GB mechanical drive before I swapped it over
 
Here is a benchmark from my 3 year ol Dell 15R using a 160GB G2. I think the 160GB is generally ~10% faster than the 80GB version, but it should be a reasonable comparison of laptop performance.

How old is your 1700, and have you installed intel SSD Toolbox and ran it's optimiser and TRIM functions?

This drive benchmarks about 20% slower than it did within my desktop. Laptops are just slower.

According to the Sandra information the maximum SATA mode is SATA 300 (3Gbps) but the two drives in use are operating as SATA 150 (1.5Gbs).

I didn't think that they would share bandwidth but if it's possible you could remove the HDD and see what happens.

Think Ill try that only a 2 min job....TBH I don't need the 250GB second drive really if it improves boot and app launches...


will report back with my findings...:)
