Hey.

Looking to upgrade my current AMD FX 8350 gaming system, so time to call upon the expert advice of my fellow OcUK chums!

I'd like my new build to be based on an Intel processor and I'm happy to go either watercooled, part-watercooled or just plain old air cooled.

I don't need any perhipherals, as I have my keyboard, mouse and monitor.

I also don't need a hard drive as I will be moving my current HDD(s) across.

I will need one SSD in the new build, though I will also be bringing one over from the old build.

Finally, it would be nice to overclock, though it is not a priority, as long as the chosen processor is decent even when running at stock speeds.

If I have missed anything out, let me know! :)

Budget is circa £1250.

That's not a move I would make. What can't your 8350 do that makes you want to make this move. Have you overclocked it? The Intel 4690K is apallingly bad value for money right now at almost £200 and there is no way that I would buy one at this price.

I'd prefer an Intel build, I've stuck with AMD for around eight years and it is time for a new system build.

Well, I don't need to buy the 4690K processor, don't think I specified a specific processor, aside from the fact I want go Intel.

Sure. :)

Current system spec (not inc perhipherals) below.

AMD FX 8350 (8 Core) CPU
Gigabyte Radeon R9-280X WindForce OC
Asus SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0
8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 668MHz (11-11-11-28)
Cooler Master G-Series G700W 80+ Bronze
Samsung SSD 840 EVO 250GB (SSD)
OCZ-AGILITY3 120GB (SSD)
3TB Seagate HDD
ASUS Xonar DGX
Coolermaster HAF Case

A FX8350 is not a slow CPU.

Overclock it?

Intel will have a new range of CPUs and chipsets this year (Q2 maybe) and so save you money for that.

Sure, change the case etc, but wait for the next lot of stuff, AMD 300 series will be out around March.

How about some better cooling, a new case, new memory and new card as an interim measure?

If so, what would you spec for my current system?

Not sure about new RAM as what if the next platform uses DDR4?

You find a case or two then I can suggest a cooler for it.

Faster DDR3 wont gain you anything noticeable.

GFX cards, well the best you can afford so GTX980/290X etc, but a few more weeks and the 300 series rumours will start I would have thought, leaked performance graphs etc.

Thanks again Stulid, I was thinking of moving over to Nvidia, is there much between the 290x or 980?

Plus, when I do start a new build, would you be looking at bringing the gfx card over to the new system?

Just trying to work out costs. :)

The 780T is nice and large, if used one in a build and found it simple enough to work in with ample space (maybe you might need a 8pin ATX extension for your PSU?).

It can fit any of these,

YOUR BASKET
1 x Corsair Hydro H110 280mm High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler (CW-9060014-WW) £91.99
1 x Corsair Hydro H105 Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler (CW-9060016-WW ) £89.99
1 x Cooler Master Nepton 240M AIO Cooling Solution £79.99
Total : £271.57 (includes shipping : £8.00).

Or the H100i GT which isnt listed at ocUK.
