Going to get an intel Core 2 Duo, question is how to correctly fit the stock cooler, some forums say just push tabs until you hear a click, others say push and twist tabs... any experianced builders with the correct advice would be appreciated, also looked on intels site to find assembly instructions, but to no avail... cheers for any help ;)

Pushing the pins in should lock it in place. Turning them in the direction of the imprinted arrow will unlock. If in doubt, give it a wiggle to check it's secure.

You may have to twist them to get them in the correct position (you need the correct position to push it down and lock it in and then twisting it allows it to pull it out) just try it a few times before you actually put it on the mobo, i think i've made this sound much more complicated than it is

Check the pins before you place it also, some of the heatsinks I've had in the past have had the pins pre-pushed in, meaning you can push it into the motherboard in that state, so just unlock the pins if need be before you place it on the motherboard. Also make sure the cap is twisted in the right direction, and not in the locked position.

I normally just place the heatsink on the motherboard, and line in the pins a bit as they wiggle, use a pen or something (plastic) to align them if needed. Then I do it in an order such as: bottom right, top left, bottom left, top right. You should hear a "click" noise when you push the pins in, but can also just give the pin a very gentle tug to make sure it is in properly and not loose. Diaganol is best I find since it applies even pressure on the chip/board inside of lots of pressure on one side and none on the other.

The plastic pins on the stock cooler are poo and are very cheap, i find the stock cooler to be tat!
Really? I've never had a problem with them. Just push them in until they click. Advisable to do them diagnonally.

Crap installation approach IMO. Would be far better off going for anything other than the **** pins they have designed

Yeah as i've said before i much prefered the 478 retention bracket way much easier. I had some troubles getting the stock cooler for my C2D in properly & the stock cooler is pants too :(
