Intel i5 9600k or AMD Ryzen 7 2700x ?

The minimum I would buy if I was upgrading now is a 6 core/12 threaded CPU.
Those extra threads will help once more games starts to push past 6 cores so I think the 2600x is a smart choice.

Now you are also able to upgrade to a 7nm AMD CPU in the future with a simple BIOS update :)

Bought 2700x on day of release. Mates with delidded haswell 4790k's (4.8) still have me beat for gaming.
It's a wonderful chip/setup otherwise.

If I was buying now it would be the biggest baddest x470 board (good vrms. Taichi, strix-f or a couple of others). Good 3200 cl14 ram and a 2600 with 3700x pre-ordered to slap in on release day.

In CPU-Z 1.78.3. benchmark my 15W Ryzen 5 2500U is as fast as haswell 88W i7 4790k lol

Build an AM4 based system, and slap the cheapest 6c/12t CPU you can find in it £115-130, then in 4-6 months drop in the new Ryzen 3xxx CPU at £150-250, sell the old one, net cost is the same as getting a 2700X but you'll end up with a much better system for the same money spent.
This. I'm not usually one for holding out for something 'months' from release as nothing is certain but this seems to a good way forward.

I am using a 2500k and find BFV absolutely no issue at all. Have it OC to 4.3 and coupled it with 16gb RAM and a 1070 gpu.

That said I am starting to consider a new CPU/mobo upgrade but only as it is getting a bit long in the tooth and not because I have any gaming issues to date and I run everything at fairly high settings.

May wait to CES though as I am looking for something that will last me the next 6 years!
