Intel i5 v AMD range

I don't have a HTPC
My windows home server is underclocked using 45nm tech and draws very little watts. Reason being? its on 24/7 streaming media to my PS3 in my cinema room when i want.
Sorry I was thinking HTPC instead of WHS, lets face it they are worlds apart right? :p

I was thinking do you edit videos on that? . . . underclocked E5200?

then i saw you say this . . .

The main Gaming/editing/photoshop/studio pc is a different beast....raw power is what counts thats why I overclock.
Is that the machine you are using to

128+ audio tracks running audio filters in real time...
What hardware are you running for all that, sounds like it is quite a beast!

What is it? . . an underclocked E5200 or? :D

I am suprised at that myself?

Although if your extra sure that's true I wonder what the AMD implementation offers to enhance performance that the Intel®LGA1366 is lacking?

Did you have the Intel®Core i7 as an earlier adopter and maybe it was an early BIOS hash or something?

Or maybe there is a little more to the AMD *Ice-Dragon* platform than we first thought? :)

Stability... was the first problem on the i7 rig.. but when I got them up and running bench marks were 'similar' but the AM3 rig was 'smoother' in games.. My Crosshair III has no issues running them so I can get a nice overclock on the cards as well.. the x58 rig would take an age to get stable if I tweaked anything

Read the thread. I am in the process of building a Home studio PC.

Whats your point again?:p

I think one needs to know a U.K selling price before commenting on value-for-money!

I know both the AMD Athlon II X2 250 and AMD Athlon II X3 435 sell very cheaply so lets wait and see . . . .

Out of interest where would a Q6600 @ 3.4ghz sit in this chart?

Thanks.

at 3.4GHz? it should be close to the Phenom 965 i would think. They are after all comparable clock for clock

Anandtech has the following FPS for a stock Q6600 and the 965.

1680x1050, Enthusiast.
-Q6600 (at stock): 69.8.
-965 (3.4GHz): 81.4.

So if the Q6600 got to 3.4GHz, they most likely would be.
