Intel Larrabee performance apparently on par with GeForce 285

Intel drivers seem to get less updates because in generall they need less updates. Futhermore intel have a tendancy to "set standards", Thus if a game doesnt display right on larrabee, the game developer is likely to be pressured (or assisted by intel) to "fix" the game so it displays correctly.

Intel sent out teams of programmers to help the games industry get the best performance out of P4 "Netburst".

Of course as a mid to high end GPU intell will be the "new boys" so to speak, but larrabee shows a lot of promise, and hopefully it will have intels excellent power saving technologies built in.

Interesting. As said, in theory this type of "solution" by Intel seems promising.
I guess we will have to wait for the benchmarks :)

the VERY FIRST LINE of the quote says its Intel's FIRST DISCRETE card. now seeing as it says first, even if you don't know what discrete means its clearly not another intergrated graphics core.

intergrated stuff tends to trickle down but not instantly and not impressively. the amount of transistors in anything that can do 285gtx type speed is simply far FAR to expensive and too big to intergrate into anything, 3 years later, 3 process shrinks later and some increased efficiency and you "might" get half the performance on intergrated parts.

But we have no idea what silicon Intel sent to the reviewer it might simply be their version of internal "current gen" hardware with a new version on smaller process and twice the power about to tape out, who knows.

On board gfx equal to a GTX285 sounds great if it were out now, but it's not. Still impressive for onboard graphics though.

The GTX285 matching card isn't onboard, like i said above to get that sort of performance you need a lot of tranistors, Too much power and heat for it to be onboard, so it'll be a PCI-E card.

The versions for onboard and built into CPU's will have less "processing units", and thus less power, same as the ATi and Nvidia onboard graphics are cut back versions of their Add in Cards.

Motherboards (and laptops) just arn't set up to power or cool another 200W worth of chip onboard.

OK, well then thats less impressive... Will have to be cheap.

there was a rumour going about that larabee would be in the ps4. If that is correct and if it really does preform as good as the gtx285 then that means all next gen games on the console will look as good/better than crysis :D
