Has been launched today... interestingly.

I shall be purchasing one to see what it's like in comparison to the PowerPC ones :p

Price has gone up a bit though and it now has integrated graphics :(

Yeah I had a long discussion with my brother about the new mini. Seems very overpriced and not much improvment over the G4 version, especially the core solo.

The integrated graphics is a bit of a step down and a big bummer considering in pillages 64mb of your system memory which is a big deal considering it only with 512mb as standard.

The inclusion of Front Row and the remote is nice but the small hard drive and lack of built in TV output (dvi doesn't count :p) means it still isn't a proper media PC.

And why is the power button still at the back?? It's so fiddly. Grr.

£600 for the Core Duo seems like a hell of a lot, personally I'd rather pay the bit extra for an iMac, especially if I only had a crummy old CRT.

-edit-

Apparently it's 80mb for the integrated video. Lame.

Decided I should buy one, what with Student discount bringing it in a fair bit cheeper and all.

After looking at benchmarks, and info on the 950GM chipset Intel have used in it, looks like a pretty good all round media pc. Lot faster than the old one, with Front Row, bigger HD and 5.1 audio, I think it'll do well as a home entertainment system.

punky_mukny, just read about the Intel chipset and it varies its memory useage depending on what your doing, varies between 32mb and 80mb which is pretty good feature.

I wouldn't say no to one, but I'm a bit hesitant to go for an intel mac just yet... I'm sure that before long though temptation will set in :p

Kelv.

Why would you want to? They're just an average spec PC in a small case. You'd be far better off going for a Shuttle or something like that so you can at least upgrade the hardware.

What did you think the original PPC Mac Mini had? :p The (feeble) Radeon 9200 was also integrated.

Not what I'd call integrated integrated.. it had dedicated VRAM at least!

Sorry, should have said "Because then it wouldn't run Mac OS"

I think you will find that its possible to get Mac OS working on a shuttle with a bit of work.

I wonder if the SuperDrive supports DVD-RAM?

Sadly not, Superdrive only supports DVD+-R/RW

Should have some pics soon hopefully, atm mine is somewhere between Hong Kong and here!
