I'm just about getting the hang of this Intel stuff now and the way it deals with its memory and so on, but I was wondering if someone could please just let me know, whether or not, my ram is working as it should and as fast as it should please...

I just wanted to make sure because I've ordered 4Gb of this stuff (in total) and I just want to make sure its gonna do what I want :)

I'm unsure why CPU-Z is telling me its 4:5 on the ram as in the bios its set to 1:1 and why is it saying its only PC5300???? Its PC6400!! Just wanted to know everything was running as it should...

Sorry for being a pain :)

The pc6400 Geil identifies itself as 5-5-5-15 pc5300 so it will boot at the motherboards default vdimm of 1.8v. You need to manually set it to 800Mhz and 4-4-4-12 in the BIOS.

As for the 4:5 ratio, have you updated to the latest BIOS?

What I'm not understanding properly, is when I use the 1333 strap all the memory speeds go out the window :(
It uses 1:1 memory but its not setting it via the SPD right. If I set it at the memory timings it works fine.

When I try to use 1066 strap I get system lock ups and all sorts when the ram is set to SPD in the bios, but that does give me DDR2 950 speeds. I think its also set to 5-5-5-15 and I've tried putting more voltage through the ram, but its not making any difference :(

I've updated the bios so it will give me 1333 strap but thats it. I've kinda been waiting on Abit releasing a 1.4 version as I think an offical one would be better than a non-offical one... I hope...

I will post some pics up with regards to it all, cos I'm a little confused to say the least!! I'd just like to settle the CPU and memory down so I can get on with gaming :)

Many thanks for the reply :) Oh and was there an offical thread on the Geil PC6400 ram? I cant remember for sure but wanted to see what others where getting overclocking wise...

There is a big Geil PC6400 thread somewhere in this forum.

What timings is it setting on the 1333 strap?

The 975 chipset does have some problems with the SPD settings on some RAM after a certain speed, including the Geil. It's one of the reasons why the lower multi C2D's clock best with the P965 chipset.

Since it was on the 1333 strap, it was having the timings of 1:1 on the ram (which meant 390:390) so it wasnt quite DDR2 800 speeds, so the SPD timings where 5-5-5-15 unless I set them manually to 4-4-4-12 which is what it should have been..

I'd love to try and find the thread, but I dont get much luck when using the search tool :o

I've now updated the bios a bit and I'm trying to use 1066 strap, but I'm not having much luck..

I dont know what it is that's giving me a headache more, testing it so I know how fast the memory can go or just not playing games at all!! :(

I'm really not understanding this all too well.. Evening when I'm setting the multiplier at 8 in Windows (CPU-Z and Core Temp) are still telling me its 9... :(

I'm close to giving up!!

3.51Ghz works fine with the 1:1 timings and the 1333 strap, anything else seems to set this thing going all over the place! :(
