Intel + Nvidia

Not bought a gpu for a while - got a GeForce4 Ti 4200 atm. lolz.
Now got an overclocked i5 and looking for a new gpu. I've got it in my head somewhere that intel + Nvidia and AMD + ATI are the best combinations. Is this actually true? Would i have any issues if i went i5 + ATI?

GPU depends on taste. Each to his own. But AMD and NVIDIA will work with both CPU types!

Actually Intel + any GPU is the best combo. But if you're going NVIDIA then Intel is almost a requirement.

If its a i5 2500k then get the best gpu your budget will allow! I always go intel and nvidia but that's just because I prefer them. AMD CPUs have nothing on intel at the moment. And if the rumours are true the new Radeon 7000 series won't be able to touch the new nvidia Kepler series gpus? But we'll have to see

Sigh, you're talking about a rumour destroying a card that has not even been released yet whilst saying that you prefer Intel/Nvidia and talking about Bulldozer being weak. Bit biased but you did state your preference to be fair.

Fact is that the fastest single GPU is released on Monday the 9th of January 2012 and that should change pricing to some sort of degree IMO. Also this card is faster at stock speed than the competitions top end card (it had to be TBH) and have you seen Gibbo's overclock from 925Mhz to 1225Mhz and memory from 5500Mhz to 7800Mhz?. Even if you prefer Nvidia, please don't tout a rumour versus what is known when the OP would like to buy a card in the very forseeable future due to personal preference.

I'm not saying there is no plausibility in what you are assuming, just basing it off a rumour when giving advice about an imminent (or seemingly so) graphic card purchase is not the time of the place for speculation when we need an answer . By the time Keplar is out, if it's not faster than the 7970 then Nvidia's R&D team should be charged with sabotage .

A better argument if you prefer Nvidia would be price to performance ratio in comparison to the GTX 580 3GB .

What resolution will you be gaming at?. GTX560Ti 448 or 6950/70 is good for your budget but the bigger the resolution the better the AMD card becomes but there is a continuous debate regarding the amount of vRAM required for 1080, 1200, 1440, 1600 gaming. Since my last Nvidia card was the 8800GTX and I've had no problems with my unlocked 6970 with 2gb of RAM I have not faced those video RAM limitations and wouldn't be able to help you further so I'll let the die-hards do that for you if you're gaming at 1920x1080 or higher .
