just sat here thinking,

what will intel do now that BD is a flop ?

the way i see it is they have two options.

they kick AMD while it is down, and lower the prices for SB and take even more sales

or

they increase the prices or SB as they anticipate that many people will be changing over. and then making more money from AMD's mistake

anybody else have any thoughts?

Intel are rumoured to be releasing their SandyBridge-E processors next month, which should go even further to increase their performance lead over AMD. With that in mind, I can't see them increasing the prices of the existing SB processors.

Personally, I'll be going SB-E on release :)

SB-E is going to be expensive isnt it?
im going 2500k when i have the funds.
i should have done it when i had the chance but i decided to wait for BD and now i can afford either haha

basically the ball and pretty much the whole pitch is in intels court now !

Save your money and wait and see what the 2700k is like. Unless you are planning on making a business out of a SB-E rig it'll be a complete waste of cash. Comparatively to the 2500-2700k CPU's it's unlikely that the performance increase will justify it's price tag. Look at the current gap between the Intel Hex core and the SB, the difference in price then ask yourself is it really worth it?

yes i think sb-e will be too expensive for what it is.

even the phenom's will die off now aswell. which is a shame as they are a good chip. but amd has shot themeselves in the foot with all the hype that surrounded bulldozer and will probably hurt the phenom too.

piledriver/steamroller is going to have to be something pretty special if it going to rescue AMD now.
and that isnt even till 2013 so intel will dominate the whole of 2012 and probably 2013.

it is a shame though, as i am an AMD fan but their chips just arent matching Intel and will be shame when i switch over to SB

Phenom won't die off as soon as amd would have expected now that BD reviews are out showing that a decent phenom will keep pace and wipe the floor with a 8150 etc etc, 2nd hand values might jump a little but i don't think people will be looking to get rid of their chips as much as i first thought :)

Yep, I'm with you on that one man. I was expecting more from the Bulldozer and I found the prospect of Intel having some competition quite exciting. Not only would it benefit us in terms of aggressive pricing but it would speed up the development of the new architecture. Right now Intel know they have the market by the balls.. the Ivy Bridge architecture was mentioned around the same time as the release of SB. If AMD had got their act together sooner we probably wouldn't have to wait as long to see SB-E and Ivy. Way to go AMD.. all they've done here is give Intel the opportunity to milk the SB line for all its worth. I'm not exactly filled with confidence when I consider AMD now. All the marketing around BD was pretty much bullsh*t- a cheap tactic to slow Intel's sales. Thanks for the false hope AMD...

i agree on that one also !
was hoping to be spoiled for choice ! haha

you may find now that amd will release a rivesed BD maybe? but i doubt it as i dont think they can be bothered.

they will probably push piledriver now and that may come earlier than anticipated.
