Intel or AMD for budget CPU?

why dont you spec yourself a new rig and give him the old one?
I've got some very expensive kit in my pc. Besides I spent ages finding the right settings to get Q6600 @ 3.2GHz Intel Torture Test 24/7 stable, lapping the cpu/heatsink and setting up my 8800GT to be fanless.

The Intel system should offer lower running costs so you would claw back some £££ by paying less electricity bills

I thought power savings go out the window when you overclock.

In my opinion, the best CPU's for overall quality/budget would definitely be AMD for personal use. However, for selling purposes, Intel is probably better, because it's been advertised better.
I've met people who havent even heard of AMD!!

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. It's possible to undervolt a processor and overclock it at the same time, it also helps if you utilize the nice Intel® power saving features.

Heres a list of possible scenarios! :)

  • £ Undervolt + Underclock + EIST
  • ££ Undervolt + Stock + EIST
  • £££ Stock + Stock + EIST
  • ££££ Undervolt + Overclock + EIST
  • £££££ Overvolt + Overclock + EIST
  • ££££££ Overvolt + Overclock + EIST Disabled
