Could use some input here please :)

Ive seen and read of no end of ppl being able to overclock this cpu well into 3Ghz with FSB of 150 - 200 or more!

I can get my fsb up to 150 ok, so thats 3.0Ghz but its like ive hit a wall. it wont go any faster. If i set the fsb to 151.. pc fails to boot. Its not getting to hot, usaly about 44c @ 3Ghz. Ive upped the voltage as high as 1.6v but i still cant get past 150mhz on the fsb.

My mobo is a ECS PF5 Extreme v1.0A with the Intel 945P chipset. Also running 1GB of DDR2 667 @ 533Mhz.. that wont let me set it to 667 either, if i do, the pc fails to boot yet again.

Im completly stumped on this one. Im not new to overclocking but still got a fair amount to learn me thinks.

Any help or advice anyone can give would be fantastic.

Thanks in advance.

Hmm.. i thought this was an Asrock thing, but i wonder now about the 945P, people with the Conroexfire Asrock board with the 945P (i have one with a 820) have had the same issue, 133 cpus hit a wall at 150, 200fsb cpus hit a wall at 223-4 (my 820 has done 3.8Ghz on stock volts when i tested it on my DS3 but i'm using my core 2 on that)and 266FSB cpus hit a wall at 298 or thereabouts, so i'm wondering if its a 945p thing.

i'm having the same problem as you, 805D gets to 150 fine and after than will just not boot. thats on a asrock conroe board.

shame really :(

but still 3ghz is better than nothing

ture... i dont like the mobo all that much, the cpu voltage control is crap...

to get the cpu to run at 1.4v i have to set the voltage in the bios to about 1.47v :\

But i got my new credit card coming some time next week. Going to go buy me a new mobo and probaly a new core 2 duo as well :D

Asrock boards lack voltage control and ECS boards lack quality control :p there is the problem

My 820 does 3.8Ghz on stock volts, so its not a voltage issue, 700MHz less on the same voltage? c'mon even if it was poorly regulated it could'nt be that bad. Can't really see it as a FSB limitation as the board will run a 266FSB cpu and overlock that to 298 before hitting a wall, so i'm thinking either delibrate FSB lock or no PCI/PCIE lock.

Yes it could be that bad, vdroop culd easily account for it. As for the higher FSB, that was ona diferent chip so it is not comparable. That chip can do the higher FSB on a lower voltage and draws less power. I had to volt mod my Asus to get 3.8ghz out of my 805, was only stable upto around 3.3 before I done that (even with overvolting in the BIOS to counteract the vdroop)

See this thread, clockgen and setfsb for that conroe board: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?p=7732363#post7732363

will try this later. what i'm saying is the chipset is capable of faster fsbs (266 etcc) so it should'nt really be struggling with lower fsb cpus, the 820 ran a 272 bus fine with my DS3, also vdroop is not the case as i've tried an 805, 820 Celeron D 2.53, Celeron D 2.67 and E6300, all reach exactly the same speeds via BIOS that a lot of people are seeing, the Cel Ds topped at 150fsb (they were more than capable of that) the 805 same 150, the 820 at 224 and the E6300 at 299fsb, so its pretty conlucsive thats theres something other than voltage going on. Besides, they're 100% stable with anything i test it with but 1mhz over and it won't boot, hardly symptoms of not enough vcore as it'd usually boot quite a few more mhz albeit unstable before reaching a point where it won't post, done a volt mod on the board anyhow, did'nt change a thing so that points moot.

Idunno *shrugs* Buy a decent motherboard :p

I'm gona get this sucker to get more MHz, got my core 2s on my DS3, DS4 and P5W DH and not gonna spend more money to get a netburst cpu clocking lol.

yeah the setfsb works well for me. upto 171 on the fsb now.

now won't go any higher stable and i'm not going to do the voltmod so that seems my limit

Heres something that might help you get past these daft 150mhz fsb walls..

I just changed a setting in the cpu config in the bios called PCIE CLK Syncronise It was set to disabled but i enabled it and was able to get to 160mhz fsb, bringing cpu speed up to 3.2Ghz it will go to 3.24Ghz (162) but windows wont load. But thats almost a 600Mhz increase in speed! witch is not half bad but the 805 cpu can do better. much better. Should be able to get up to a FSB of 200 at stock voltages with the standard cooler as well.

So.. glad i got it faster and im impressed with the added performance. Now out performs a Pentium D 840! And can almost match a Core 2 Duo 2700 2.33Ghz! :p :D

Heres some resaults for you that i did in sisoft sandra cpu benchmarks, Also you can see the idle temp, the temp underload seems to peak at 53c

Ok, we got a problem.

Its at 2.99Ghz and not 3.2Ghz as reported by the bios on startup and by windows. CPUID says its 3ghz and so dose intel, FBS is showing at 150 even tho its set at 160 in the bios?!

Anyone got any clue as to whats going on here?

Ive been having the same probs with my 805, ive tryed setfsb but it keeps saying incorrect chipset as its for a conroe, am i using the right one, the link is all in russian or something.
