Intel Pentium Dual-Core G6950

I know its a Dual core,But it has 2 threads aswell and i heard these Overclock like a beauty and dont even sweat at 4.6Ghz with the right cooling.

I already have a 1156 mobo waiting.. (Gigabyte GA-P55-US3L Intel P55)

Im tempted to get one because theyre so cheap at only £65,Id only have to get some DDR3 Dual channel ram then,And i could always upgrade to an I5 at a later date when they go down in price.

I cant seem to find how/if its all that much faster than my Q6600 @ 3.5Ghz....id assume it would be because i could overclock the hell out of it + id have faster ram? (1600mhz DDR3)

No. It wouldn't be faster than your Q6600, except for some light threaded games, such as WOW, Crysis etc if you are comparing 4.6GHz overclock vs 3.5GHz overclock.

Coming from a Q6600, I say the least you should look at as an upgrade is a i5 750/i5 760. And I doubt i5 will drop in price with the release of Sandybridge, as they would simple phase out/become EOL. Your best bet is probably hold off buying the CPU for now, and when Sandbridge is release on the 5th Jan 2011, I would imagine quite a lot of 2nd hand i5 CPU hitting the 2nd hand market...you might be lucky enough to pick one up for £100 or less. But I suppose you can use a G6950 until then, but you would most likely have difficulty selling it for decent price when you upgrade to a i5 750/i5 760, as the CPU simply is not in the mainstream, and even more difficult to sell with the new gen released.

No offense, but I don't know why would you buy the 1156 motherboard first...if you waited till Jan, you'd probably pick up a CPU+motherboard bundle/combo off someone for cheap...

I have one - It's geared mainly for those using the on-chip graphics and does a great job. I would spend just a bit more and get the i3 530 tho...with your mb and a good air cooler you could push it near 5GHz. ;)
