Intel Quad Core only really 2x dual core, or so AMD say?

define "very memory intensive task"

i dont mind running a few tests ;)

Something like an SQL database app on a web server :)

As said, prolly not the sorta thing that either 4x4 or kenstfield are gonna be running.
Still i would have thought it would give a good indication as to Clovertons performance. Does Cloverton have a faster FSB/another bus to run on or?

I am not sure if you can get any benchmarking software that uses such a thing for free but it might be worth a look.

next time instead of trying to be a clever dick, if your commenting on something thats not general knowledge try noting why you know this information and where you know it from. people may be more inclined to immediatly believe you.
The Kentsfield QX6600 in his sig is a clue.

well i do hate it when people spout crap, a pime example above. i didnt personally attack you i stated that you should stick to what you know as opposed to what you have been reading, given your lack of notation on your source how is anyone supposed to know if your speaking from actual use of the product unless they are phsychic.

i will also say i can barely make out the picture but i get the general idea and i now understand what you meant initially.

For crying out loud 'child' act your age and accept you were wrong and your post was hostile, on both accounts. And heck if you bothered to check my recent posts before you attempted to look all smart you would have seen I made several posts about having a kentsfield. Most people check before they attempt to discredit not just randomly say things.

edit...nevermind

Since the FSB limitation of the Kentsfield doesn't seem to be too much of a hinderence currently, i would say that it is a dead cert that the E6600 is going to be a better performer/option than anything stuck in a 4x4 mobo atleast until K8L is out. Afterall, it is basically 2 C2Ds vs 2 X2s and we already know the winner of that. This is for normal enthusiast use.
I am not sure how it would do with a very memory intensive task as the FSB might get seriously clogged up. Probably have to ask someone that has used one.

The performance of Kentsfield seems to scale nicely with FSB. There does seem to be a performance boost from upping the FSB and keeping the same CPU/Memory frequency. Suppose this does kinda make sense, 4 hungry cores running over a wimpy bus.

thats news to me, is a Kentsfield offically known as "QX" series?
I've seen people call Q6600 ES as QX, maybe they add the Q to the XE for the Extreme version, dunno.

QX6600 Core 2 Quad, 2x4MB L2, 1066MHz FSB, presumably running at 2.40GHz

Yup dont you just hate it when people spout crap and run their mouth about things they dont know about ...

Err it shows as 4 threads because of hyperthreading...
I think newer conroe versions have HT by now.
As its mentioned in c2d documentation.

No its because it has four cores, showing the device manager would be a better way. And no hyperthreading on C2D's IIRC.
