Intel rapid Storage Technology

hi guys.

so on my new dell inspirion laptop (wich is fantastic) i have this icon on my notification area called "intel rapid storage technology".

i read somewhere its to do with sata drives and improves performace ect.

do i really need this or can i delete it?

looks like its just another gimmick to me? it wont break my recovery partition if i uninstall it will it? lol.

It's mainly of use for running RAID, the management of such platforms, and as a way to recover/mitigate data loss. I'd not bother un-installing it, but preventing it from running at start-up will cause no issues.
