14 core 28 thread limited edition 4GHz base, 5GHz boost... Only available at special auctions? If you feel like you have too much money and it's a burden you'd like to reduce, you might be able to buy one of these unicorns, from a system integrator, who might win some at auction.

Quite why the 9990XE exists I don't know. Quite the thinking behind targeting this SKU to the financial sector via bizarreo auctions... Have intel ever done such a thing?

Never mind numbers.... how many more pluses will be see tagged onto Intel's 14nm++++ processing node?

Intel still have room for at least 2 more SKUs: 9995XE and 9999XE. Hell, they could even wheel out XX versions. It's always possible to flog a dead horse, no matter how much of a beating it's already received.

It's going to go a bit "Gillette" where they add as many manly sounding names as they can before someone pulls them up for it. Anyone remember "Gillette Mach 3 Extreme Turbo Champion"?

Intel selling these via auction is for one reason, They know there's plenty of idiots that will pay many times it's real value just because they can. What a World.

I believe that it is actually due to low quantity per quarter. The price is down to the resellers to decide. If a boutique thinks they can sell a high end pc with this in it for thousands extra then they'll bid accordingly, if not then the bidding wont be as fierce.
Intel simply has to say, this quarter we have x amount of these highly binned cpus, how much are you willing to pay to get them.
