Hi,

I have some questions regarding SRT after reading a few posts and looking at it being referred I decided to google it and I would like to use SRT but I have a few questions.

Firstly I have 2x 3tb Seagate Barracuda drives and a 128gb samsung 830 drive. I use the seagates to game and the ssd to use as my OS however would activating SRT mean slower start ups (because from various guides it says you have to install windows in RAID mode, on your HDD and not SSD).. and what other disadvantages would I get using SRT?

Will using SRT increase my drive speeds by a lot or is it an unnoticable change?

I'm currently getting around 90mbs read (nearly full) on one drive and around 200mbps read on the other HDD, the SSD is getting around 525 read.

Should I use and install SRT?
Also how much space on my SSD will it use and should I buy a new SSD just for caching purposes?

sweet thanks a lot.

so whats the difference between using only 60gb and using 10gb.. planning to use less than 20gb but can go all the way to 60gb if needed.

If 60gb is a must I will just purchase a secondary SSD to use as a cacher

Alright so what your telling me is that if I set say, 10gb to cache, the most read stuff gets put onto the SSD and once I restart my pc that 10gb will be cleared into the HDD?

should I port my OS over to the HDD or a fresh reinstall? would hate to install all the wupdates another time this week

hmm ok it sounds good. now gonna go google guides to clone windows and what gigabyte ezsmart is .

could i change the location of the SRT say purchase another SSD later down and move the cache to there or increase the cache on my ssd?

OK.

Will changing OS hard drive mean hard drive's letters are changed too? I've got my games etc linked to :D drive and if my D drive becomes primary will it automatically switch to C?

Will report back once I've found how to clone.. going to just find a windows cloner program

hmm,

will i have to wipe both drives because i'm going to put it onto RAID?

i'm going to begin formatting my H (storage) 3tb drive then use your guide to port windows using that cloner. are removing the other drives really neccessary? can't i just disable them in the BIOS or dev manager?

ok will do. the only problem is both drivers are identical in the BIOS... god damn it how do I find out what port is on what drive on windows (so I can disable in bios easier).

the hdd im disabling has no boot option and is purely storage (just has 2tb worth of steam games)

installing macrium trial right now, it seems they have no free version anymore.

edit: device manager says my hdd is "channel 2" and my ssd is channel 0 (i remember puttign the ssd on sata port 0) but regardless if thats not it then trial and error... still waiting for my slow ass connection to finish this 200mb dl.

I can't clone it using macrium because whenever I do it switches the disk from GPT to MBR so It doesn't use all 3TB and limits to 2TB. should I use other software or will this happen all of the time?

edit: tried driveimage xml and that failed also. is it even possible to copy mbr to gpt?

OK

I've managed to clone it wazza using easeus (had to try a bunch before it finally ****ing worked)... and clone partition is OK and it is GPT.. all good there..

however it won't boot, it says something along the lines of "please insert proper boot device then press any key" on a blackscreen upon bootup. I can check what it actually says but what else do I need to do.. got any clues for these GPT drives? Do I need to install the boot record again or something?

yeah i see

alright in windows startup repair the keyboard and mouse are off... the lights on both (laser on mouse, caps lock etc on keyboard) are off when they are on in windows.

theyre connected to usb3 bcoz i only have usb3 ports on this mobo

OK, well plugging in a spare PS2 port did not work either.. hmm very strange.

however I got it to boot into startup repair after windows failed to load a few times and used cmd to repair the BCD onto my H drive.

however how do I know what drive I have loaded?

This is exactly the same, no install, no setup nothing just a bit slower startup (5-10seconds) and everythign else is really fast already

no nvm that.. nothings worked. bloody stupid GPT... if i knew gpt was so stupid i would have never bought a 2tb+ drive...

ive rebuilt the MBR and used fix boot and all the other commands except I get "system32/winload.exe"
status 0x0000000000e
info: selected entry could not be loaded because it is missing and corrupt

arrgggghhhh
