Intel TAT - am I missing something?

This may be an incredibly noobish and pointless question, but why does this screenshot say "thermal monitor idle" when it obviously IS monitoring?

Is it just that your cpu is "idle" and not under load, try clicking start on both cores

Then again something aint right as the timer is moving to suggest its stressing the cores.

No it isn't - I'm running Orthos small FFTs in the window next to it, the load is 100%!

It's either because you are not using the logging function or because you are not using TAT's built in stress tester (don't use it as it could damage your cpu according to Intel).

It's true. It's a tool developed for technicians. TAT is'nt even supposed to be freely available.

I think the 'thermal monitor idle' refers to the idle commands that get processed when the cpu temp gets too high, thus cooling it whilst it idles. Or to give it the more common name of thermal throttling.

The comment doesn't change when you start TAT's 'stress' test. Also can can change the settings for TAT to stop logging the temp.

I did 8 hours of Orthos and playing Bioshock at the same time once, 4 mins of Intel TAT and my PC BSOD and the temps are through the roof compared to anything else.

But no the application wont damage the CPU, any application can do that and your CPU is clearly faulty.

I usually use TAT to test an overclock before Orthos-ing. If TAT fails... ie restarts my PC then my Orthos WILL fail eventually.

TAT is made by Intel, they know best how to get the max temps/current draw from their processors and I hardly expect them to make a program that can break a cpu.

A guy called Porta made a post back in January. He found a email reply to someone asking Intel about TAT. The reply Intel came back with was:-

"I have been working with Legal on a Cease and Desists for some websites that have it posted. It is Intel Confidential and meant for Customers only with NDA. Some customer has leaked this out. If used incorrectly there could be potential damage to the processor.There are no planned updates for the public."
