Intel to buy nvidia?????

imho Intel will buy PowerVR (or Imagine or whatever they renamed to a few years back). Far cheaper and able to supply onboard chipsets.

Of course in this case it's not a monopoly because Intel do not have 100% control over the market, but who knows what the future holds.

for a company to be a monopoly it does not have to have 100% of the market share, Tesco for an example is considered a retail monopoly because is holds monopolistic power, but enough economics, wether or not a US commission will see a difference in discrete board and IGPs will determine whether intel could buy Nvidia, if IGP and discrete are considered the same market then intel already hold a dangerously high share of the market and are unlikely to be allowed to control Nvidia but is they are viewed seperatly then Intel should not have to much trouble. AMD had no issues with ATI because the graphics market was completely new to AMD.

From a consumer standpoint I think that intel purchasing Nvidia would be excellent becuase it would highten the competition for each company and would in the long run benfit the consumer

Competition between nVidia and ATi is already very intense. Very few (if any) segments of the computing industry are as competitive. There seems to be a new model announced every other week from atleast one of the two companies.

And then there's the chipsets. Are we going to have nVidia making only Intel chipsets along with ATi making only AMD ones? Intel have already shown what they think about their main competitor having access to enough information to design a chipset based around their product. Will AMD continue to trust nVidia? Personally I doubt it.

Less choice for the consumer if this deal goes through IMHO.

Intel dont even have 17bill do they? wasnt it only about 9bill ish?

Nvidia have amrket share of about $11 Bil Intel will probably have to take loan to buy them same as AMD has to take a loan to buy ATI, Intel have about 9Bil in Cash spare i think

no because AMD/ATI will be good combination, there both smaller companies than nvidia and intel, AMD don't make graphics, ATI only make graphics, intel make everything, don't see the problem, intel wouldn't want nvidia since they already make more graphics processors than anyone else, they do it the smart way and avoid the enthusiast market and focus on everything else

AMD has bought ATI, Intel is rumoured to have bought Nvida Then there would be hostile takeover from *buyer who will buy Overclockers, thats a rumour as well :p

.. well i dont think it will go ahead as said Intel shouldnt panick and snap up NV, besides NV are cruising along at the moment why would they need Intel breathing down there neck, its just a rumour rarely rumours are true.

Well the topic made me chuckle :p

If only AMD had bought Nvidia... then I`d be a happy bunny :D

Then Intel could have bought ATI and rotted in peace together

*waits for the flames*

I can see it now, Intel CEO walks into Barclays and asks if he could possibly take out a loan of 6 billion over 5 years with payment protection.:D

I would have loved to have rotted with the them! Intel & ATI would have rocked! I'll change my tune if Nvidia gets there act together & produces the same graphics quality as of ATI products - speed isnt the issue for me!

correct, the enthusiast market is insignificant in numbers compared to joe average.

This isn't about now, or the next couple of years, this is about the long term - which is GPU's on CPU's. If AMD/ATI have already started (if rumours are true) then we could start seeing these in the next 2/3 years.

Bad news in my point of view if Intel do take over nV - the whole company would seemingly have a near monopoly over the insides of pc's, laptops, and oterh smaller devices also

PS Think someone has taken over OCUK by the (dreadful) change to the front of the web shop - looks like any other tech shop on the web now and imo has lost its charachter

I think it looks more proffesional... anyway sure gpus on cpus mightbe cool but what about people who like a mix of ati and intel or amd and nvidia... would they still have addon gfx cards like now? with the built-in gfx on the cpu instead of elsewhere on the board?
