i am looking at upgrading in the near future and am considering this spec.

Intel Core 2 DUO LGA775 E6550 2.33GHz Retail / Abit IP35 / 2GB OCZ PC2-8500C5 DDR2 Dual Channel Kit - Bundle £228.97

Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO 512MB DDR2 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (11117-02-10R)

i have everything else that i need, but as i have not done this for ages now, would like to know if anyone can suggest any better mobo, cpu, mem or gfx card that would get me to about the same cost of about £320 to £350.

am a little concerned about the mobo not supporting 1066 memory.

any suggestions?
 
that's a good mobo, great ocer

personally for the processor, i'd get a 2180 and clock the nuts off it with a tuniq tower or a thermalight 120 extreme
 
not looking to overclock this time round so looing for the best fsb's out of the box that i can get. have a watercooling rig for socket 478 that i would hope to keep running with the new system, but not concerned about oc'ing.

thanks to a small change in fortune i now have a bit more to spend and after doing some research, have decided on some new gear that i will order tomorrow. the new pc will not be used for gaming or any serious overclocking (if any at all). it will be connected to my lcd tv and home theater for movies and music mostly and will be running vista.

can anyone see any flaws in what i have chosen?

chose this for its ddr2 1066 support. was also considering the P5KC, but am not convinced it is worth the extra just for ddr3 support

if it's the psu you're talking about, it was either an enermax or antec. quite a decent psu about 2 years ago.

Erm, why the extremely fast RAM? You won't notice much, if any difference... Just get some bog standard PC2-6400 RAM like this:

Why not save yourself £64? Intel processors don't see much of a gain from having uber fast RAM as it is. Not to mention some motherboards get a little picky about having all 4 slots filled. I mean, at the end of the day if you feel you might get better 'responsiveness' it's your own cash, but this is just my advice.
 
will consider that before buying. never noticed that the geil was 4x1gb. you reckon in ordinary everyday use, you wouldn't notice the difference between the 1066 and 800? £64 is a fair bit.
