Intel v AMD

Tell the guy who commented that he shouldn't be running his own PC shop because he's obviously a moron.

The reason AMD still exist is because:
1. The technologically ignorant folk OR people who want low power budget systems buy their chips.
2. Because they bought out ATI - Pretty good investment to be honest.

For most gaming now the cpu is not the problem 8150 or 2500k you won't see that much difference in games and some people do prefer amd on so called ethical reasons. I have a friend that got a good deal and is very happy with his 8150 and i know people that are just as happy with intel so it comes down to what you personally want. Weigh up what you need the cpu to do what your prepared to pay and see who comes out on top.

Listening to forums isn't always a good thing as they tend to promote the company on top at any given time sometimes even when that company doesn't offer the best remember many forums telling people to get P4 during the athlon days. Read up and make your choice based on your needs not what others tell you that you need :).

+1
Well put.
I'm still looking at throwing an 8120 rig together for £££s less than a 2500k system, and it will perform about as well unless all you do is spend all day benchmarking.

Like said above, this CPU isn't going to bottleneck things and it's cheaper and performs better at multithreaded tasks than hyperthreading (which i5 doesn't have) by all accounts.

So, jomiyo, why wouldn't I get AMD?

EDIT: I'm no AMD fanboy, I'm running Intel atm. I'm no shareholder either. So are you calling me an ignoramus?
Maybe you are just a little blinkered.

Should've clarified that I was speaking from my needs/wants perspective, in which case outdated Intel tops BD.

But yeah, that was a daft comment, my apologies.

Here we go again.
Another "who runs at these temps in every day usage" excuse.
Look. You have bough a high end cooler and don't feel comfortable past 4.3Ghz which is a damn poor oc as far as I can see when a **** easy oc on a SB seems to be 4.6-4.8 24/7.
Seems the more respected members of this forum see it this way too. Maybe you know better eh?

Im at 4.5Ghz now can easily do 4.6Ghz derp. Also FYI I know what Im on about as a lot of the people your talking about Ive been talking to. And IB is > SB to those who are pre SB and are buying new...

That's a little harsh. I'm by no means "technologically ignorant". I just consider logical since it was cheaper at the time and suits my needs as opposed to an i3 1155. I also do 3d modelling, V-Ray rendering etc etc.

Don't worry about it Agnostic, this forum is full of Intel snobs who look down on people who buy a processor to do more than bench/play BF3 or bench using BF3.
And obviously having the latest Intel CPU is more important than performance too eh Ollie?

Sorry that I upgraded from a E6500. Seriously. You should learn a few things before you try to act like you know what you're on about... Also btw Intel IS better than AMD unless you're on a really restricted budget and require heavily threaded things.

Intel snobs?
Why would I buy something that gives inferior performance when I can buy the better performance? It's illogical.
Sure, in some work loads the FX8150 can best my 2500k, but in the majority of work loads you can see an i3 2100 giving the FX8150 the run around.
For gaming AMD CPU's are bottlenecking high end GPU set ups and will only continue to do so as we increase GPU performance, A persons Q3 2011 200 quid 8 core won't out last a Q1 2011 Quadcore in gaming, the FX would need to be replaced before the i5.

Your choice was logical, you'd be a fool to get the i3 1155 over your X4/6 (Phenom II, not this FX ****) for your workloads.
X4/6, such a wonderful CPU.
