Hiya guys.
looking to build my first pc.
which cpu would you go for if you where building a general pupose machine used for surfing connecting to work servers and playing the odd game(old games like mediveal total war)

Ive have been looking at
i3 3120
i3 3225
phenom II x 4 965 Be
I dont plan on adding graphics card unless i start playing new games later on.

For general purpose you generally wont notice much difference between the two. However, I would personally recommend a i3 3225 or 3120 since it's better at single threaded applications (such as a internet browser, word processing etc).

Considered a Trinity build? That might be better.
Since you're not getting a dedicated card, it'd have to be the i3 IB stuff as the Intel HD4000 would be better than an AM3/AM3+ onboard solution afaik.

General usage, won't notice a difference.

The igfx Hd4000 has inproved but still no match for the amd onboard gfx

Which will make a massive difference in a general purpose machine designed for surfing the internet, connecting to remote desktops and playing a 10 year old RTS?

Go for the i3.

*EDIT*

Dammit didn't realize the thread was from last month /facepalm
