Hi

A friend purchased a dell ready made system and wants me to install and SSD on there, so i recommended a Intel X25 M G2 on there. The dell XPS comes with Windows 7 professional, but i don't believe its a stand alone copy but rather bundles with restart/recovery disks.

Now i don't have a clue how to setup this SSD. I am presuming that it connects like normal hard drives and windows will load similar.

but anything i should know or do before windows installation?

I have seen several guides on the Internet saying that i should optimise it after installation is complete, should i do this? is it 100% necessary?

any help or guides would be appreciated

If it comes with an Intel CPU, the HDDs (in all probability) will already be setup in BIOS to run in AHCI mode (i.e., using the Intel ICH10(R) cont), so simply connect SSD and clone old HDD onto SSD, you could disable Superfetch in Win 7 Services. As it is probably setup to run in AHCI mode, I think it will be using the Microsoft driver which supports TRIM, so TRIM will run automatically...

Hi

was wondering what program do i use to test for errors on the SSD or should i not bother?

thanks
