I might buy an SSD this week or next. I am looking at the Intel X25-M Mainstream 160GB.

Is it a good buy?
Does it support TRIM?
Do Intel provide future firmware updates?
How does this SSD compare with other drives out there?
Anything vastly better coming out in the next few weeks?

Sorry for all the questions but I'm sure you will agree it's an expensive buy.

Thanks!

In the price range, I'd say that it was a very good buy.

Yes, it supports TRIM.

As for how it compares to other drives; it has very good performance on random read / write operations, particularly with small file sizes. In general, this makes it extremely good for windows boot, program loading, pagefile use etc. It also has good sustained read speeds. Its weakness is sustained writes (~80mb/s max IIRC), but it's not often you will need fast sustained writes.
