Intel’s upcoming X38 Express chipset is expected to replace the current Intel 975X Express chipset. The X38 Express brings new features such as PCI Express 2.0 compatibility as well as two full speed PCI Express x16 slots. DDR3 1333 will be the memory standard of choice. On the premium and mainstream side of things is Intel’s G33, G35 and P35 Express chipsets. Intel’s upcoming G33 Express chipset will feature a graphics core that features Intel Clear Video Technology. Memory support on G33 Express will be limited to DDR3-1066 or DDR2-800. Front-side bus speeds of 1333 MHz are supported with the mainstream G33 Express. Stepping up a notch is the G35 Express which features a DirectX 10 compatible graphics core. G35 Express will fully support high definition content playback with HDCP protection. DDR3-1066, DDR2-800 and a 1333 MHz front-side bus are also supported. Intel’s P35 Express will be similar to G35 Express except with the integrated graphics core removed. Intel’s X38, G33, G35 and P35 will be paired with upcoming ICH9, ICH9R and ICH9DH south bridges.
New CPU's coming out! lol

Gigabyte showcase Intel X38 mainboards - Gigabyte GA-X38-DQ6

Intel X38 chipset is to replace the current 975X chipset. Gigabyte showcase two boards with the X38 chipset at its booth at Computex Taipei.

The two models resemble the P35-DQ6 and P35T-DQ6 mainboards which we have reviewed before. This board supports DDR2-1066 while the other supports DDR3 module (GA-X38T-DQ6)

Computex 07: Gigabyte shows the board off

Everyone at the show will have a X38 chipset displayed and this will be a first Intel to officially support DDR3 – 1333. The other cool thing is that the chipset supports PCIe 2.0 standard that will provide up to 300W for graphics and we kind of need this already.

Gigabyte GA-X38T-DQ6 is the first board we’ve seen and it will start shipping late summer. It will support 45 nanometer CPUs and FSB 1333 ones that will launch tomorrow.

The board has sort of copper heatpype cooling and it supports DDR3 1600 as well. It has two PCIe 2.0 slots two PCI and three PCIe 1X. It has total of six SATA slots, dual Lan. The board should launch in Q3 so August to September time but we still didn’t get the exact date.

DFI has two X38 Express-based models in the pipeline – the LANParty X38-T2R and the X38-T3R. The two models differ in the memory support department. The LANParty X38-T2R supports DDR2-800 memory while the X38-T3R supports DDR3-1333. The upcoming X38-T2R and X38-T3R feature genius BIOS and CMOS Reloaded technologies. New to the LANParty X38-T2R and X38-T3R is the DFI Bernstein 8-channel theater-level audio solution.

Lastly is MSI with the X38 Diamond. MSI manages to squeeze four physical PCIe 2.0 x16 slots into the X38 Diamond. Two of the PCIe 2.0 x16 slots are full-speed while the other two slots are half-speed. MSI also squeezes in support for DDR2-800 and DDR3-1333 memory on the same board.

Intel also plans to join in on the X38 Express festivities with the successor to the D975XBX2 BadAxe2. The new DX38BT Bonetrail features three physical PCIe 2.0 x16 slots. The DX38BT is the only motherboard currently on the Computex show floor without an elaborate heat-pipe cooling setup. Instead, Intel sticks with a simple aluminum cooler.

PCI-E 2.0? FFS

Is this X38 going to be above (in terms of market placement) the P35? (ie more features/speed)

Was going to go for P35 now it seems there's no point if that's the case. Might as well wait.. :/

From a feature point of view the 975 has already been replaced by both the 965 and P35.
The P38 will be the next chipset.
However then there will be a Pxxx on the horizon, and then.....

Just buy for the moment.

Computex 2007 Like so many mainboard-makers, FOXCONN's COMPUTEX showing includes forthcoming product based on the Intel X38 chipset.

And, also like many rivals, FOXCONN's board, the X38A (pictured below) will be a combo design that's able to accept DDR2 or DDR3 memory.

But the X38A is no me-too mainboard. It will have one claimed stand-out feature - the ability to run multi-GPU configurations from either AMD or NVIDIA.

Better still, the company reckons that buyers won't have to make the tough choice between using NVIDIA SLI or AMD CrossFire, since the board will support both!

FOXCONN says the trick will be in the special drivers its planning to release for SLI and CrossFire.

However, it makes no mention of whether they'll be locked to a particular BIOS string that's unique to its own mainboards.

If it doesn't do that, then the drivers may end up being suitable for use with any and all P35/X38 boards! :-)

i know i will be getting a Foxconn ^_^, unless all of them supports the dual gpu configuration. i know theirs bound to be a lot of problems though.
