I bought a pair of these, the idea being you turn on your PC and the plug then turns on the rest of the devices it needs. ie: You turn on the PC and power is then turned on automatically for the monitor and printer etc etc...

Within about two weeks one failed, and then about another two weeks later (tonight) the second one failed.

These were both plugged into different PCs and infact I had a hardware error on my machine tonight which reset my BIOS and god knows what else - seemingly just when the plug failed.

I strongly recommend do not risk your PCs on these things :(

I have 2 in my house and about 10 of the 6 way ones at work, no problems at all in the past year and a half! Maybe its the newer ones?

The easiest, cheapest and most reliable approach is to simply have one switch which powers everything up/down.

The arrangement depends on how you connect everything but one approach is a power strip ie a series of sockets into which you plug all the kit you want to power on/off at the same time.

I’ve got a series of standard sockets controlled by a master switch which powers them up/down at the same time.

Intelliplugs and similar are to my mind are just an unnecessarily complex and expensive way of doing something which is very easy and simple to achieve.

KISS springs to my mind.

I've changed to a Byron remote control system. Just click a button to enable/disable the sockets now...

Seen these Intelliplugs at my mates work, failed within a month, would never use them.

I just have a single plug socket with a surge protected strip and switch off there after shut down. My router and wireless access point is on a different strip along with a phone.
