Intels response to AMDs TR

https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/intel-28-core-cpu-4000/

Intel’s latest doomsday weapon in the CPU core-count arms race will release before the end of the year in the form of the Xeon W-3175X, which will be one of the most capable chips the company has ever created. Set to sport 28 cores and the ability to overclock to 5GHz (if industrial cooling is applied), it doesn’t come cheap. The price tag looks set to be an eye-watering $4,000, at least.

Gona have to damn good for a price like that

I still can't see this "Emergency-Edition" actually happening. It being listed as an SKU is one thing, it actually having any availability is another entirely.

I know its part of intels press release and stuff but should they really be including that it can hit 5ghz when you need an equally expensive industrial chiller ...on a Xeon, attached as if its a legitimate ability? It's like AMD selling bulldozer with the claim that with proper cooling you can hit 8+Ghz or the 2990WX with potential of 5.1Ghz in the press release.

And it's still 4 cores short, and possibly even 20-36 cores short come September

+1

It's really the last swansong for Intel's monolithic CPU's. I laughed at the "ability to overclock to 5Ghz". NO NO NO NO, it dosn't and will not have that ability for 99.99% of users (assuming it has many buyers at that price anyway) Just about the only peeps that will buy it to run at 5Ghz will be hardened benchers and they will be running under LN2.
The likes of 8Pack ect will and are looking forward to it, for anyone else looking to a fast HEDT platform Threadripper2 is the way to go. As said, even the current Threadripper has more cores anyway, come next September, the W-3175X will be a meaningless antique.

what a beast ! people say exspensive waits for legend to say there isnt any value in it :p

would love this for editing !

There is no value in it, since it would be cheaper to build two complete 18-core systems for the same cost as one system with this CPU and the overpriced server style board you will need. ;)

AMD will probably be showing off Threadripper 3000 series at CES 2019 which will wipe away any of the remaining HEDT credentials this chip has :D
