Intel’s Broadwell-E Flagship Core i7-6950X Processor Confirmed – 10 Core Madness For X99 Enthusiast

Legit question - why would a pro with a need for 10 cores even consider a mainstream enthusiast CPU and not one of the many xeons?

The 6950x will have faster per core speeds overclocked then locked Xeon's with similar core count and will appeal to the loadsa money no idea brigade as well!

I reckon £1250 or so... May be more!

Ooo. Got myself a nice little bonus in tomorrows pay so this might be perfect timing to replace my ageing i7 920. Gibbo, send me one now before I spend it all!

NDA ends at 30th?
VideoCardz seem to have "accidentally" broken it. :D

Doesn't seem to be anything we didn't already know though. Interesting that Intel are making no claims about single-threaded performance though, just 35% better multi-threaded performance comparing the 6950X vs the 5960X. Guess it won't be much of an upgrade (if any) for Haswell-E owners beyond the two extra cores.

10 cores would be good for my VM environment, I've got 128GB ram which handles a lot of VM's and currently pushes my 5820 to 80% when they're all running.

£1700 is a bit steep though, are new boards coming out too?

Already been a trickle of new boards coming out. Mainly refresh / updates such as Asus delux 2, but also a few new ones such as x99 gaming carbon, msi x99 titanium and some gigabyte ones. Some are already in stock on OC site.

hmm pondering the same, but without the bonus, my main gripe is will the x99 be revised to incorporate the various new features we are seeing on z170 mobos?
usb3.1 that sort of jazz?

-edit ignore me, I see they are already arriving
