Intel’s Penryn @ 45nm

I'm been wanting to upgrade my current Athlon XP 3200+ system, and having heard about this I'm in two minds, I am not in dire need for a new PC and I am wondering if it's worth waiting till Q2 '07 for the 45nm chips. Any advice?

Thanks

I'm also using an Athlon XP, and it's fine for me for now. Once I really need the extra speed, I'll upgrade, but my current rig is good enough for now. :)

I'm planning to upgrade sometime this year, but I was just pondering waiting for the introduction of 45nm transistor processors or not.

Quote from BBC News website:

"Big Blue", which developed the technology with partners Toshiba, Sony and AMD, intends to incorporate the transistors into its chips in 2008.

Intel said it would start commercial fabrication of processors at three factories later this year. "

Intel could possibly release it late this year, but they'll definitely start making them this year, where as AMD will be a bit later where they'll start incorporating them in 2008.

Yorkfield is a lot more than simply a quad-core Penryn. Yorkfield could be the first chip sporting CSI and yet more core logic tweaks.

Yes this will be my first quad core... I have been waiting for ages to hear more about this
