Intercooler Pipe Sizings

Also the quote about the sensor was simply to identify its location to youselve and to show i'm not seeing things (again) :p

My picture is just as clear as your's TBH. It can be me versus the world if you want, however you might need to step away from the world on VAG stuners and thrust sensors, you'll probably realise its not a case of me versus the world anyway...

Id size a gradual upsize from the compressor outlet throat to the intercooler of either your throttle size or 60mm ish then feed that back to the intake manifold, as slight acceleration from a narrowed pre throttle region can help accelerate the air to provide a more uniform fill in the plenum anyway with little flow loss from any wall effects. Its the narrow bends that will really start to stuff your turbo exit pressure up which in turn will drive up your exhaust manifold pressure and make exhaust gas residual evacution more difficult and hurt power.

Dunno if I can be more helpful to be honest. Well maybe if I was Oilman flogging stuff I could tell you what to buy that gives me the biggest profits :p

Infact thinking about this silly engine how it dies at higher revs, I'd be doing everything I could to get it breathing properly higher up.

Don't the WRC rally cars have a 34 or 38mm air restricter and still get ~300hp?

Very different.

The restriction is the thinnest part of the restrictor and therefore the nozzle and diffuser angles are optimised for maximum flow. The limiting factor is that the nozzle chokes once the air speed his Mach 1

This is a 20mm restrictor as used on Formula student race cars.

Intercooler silicone stuff makes me cry :( Soooo expensive!

Stainless steel mig wire is £70+ per drum

So I'm trying to weigh up welding it.. or joining it with the 'cone...

/offtopic sorry

Do you know of any welding/fabrication places that could TIG it up for you? Should be cheaper than to DIY.

If its stainless then why dont you take it to somewhere like a longlife/powerflow exhaust place and get them to quickly weld it up for you. It shouldn't cost very much at all.

Doh didnt read the post above

TaKeN, you tried Zena Racing on eBay for the silicone bits?

The hoses aren't quite as thick as Samco stuff, but not the worst I've seen. Get some Mikalor clamps too. I've not blown any hoses off since I fitted them.

Forge are actually cheaper on some stuff than Zena racing  they will be getting my order rather than coming from Hong Kong, thanks for the headsup though

I expected Zena racing to be miles cheaper

I've also been recommended the Mikalor clamps before :D

Always been happy with Forge, they knew i needed the bits for the weekend so they sent them on a pre 9am service via ups even though i'd only paid for 1st class Royal Fail!

Krikey  , Thats more than good! :D

I'm just trying to get hold of some stainless now.. I've been quoted £45 delivered for the below.

500mm of 2" O/D Stainless steel pipe (1.5mm thick)

1 x 2" O/D 90 degree stainless elbow/swept bend

2 x 2 1/2" O/D 90 degree stainless elbow/swept bend

1 x 2 1/2" O/D 45 degree stainless elbow

I've also found 4" rolls of Stainless mig wire which I can use to weld it up (we've got a MIG welder on the farm with CO2/Argon Mixed gas for the shield)

Make a new thread with pictures when your done! I'm always interested in anything mechanical.

Firestar 3x & AGW.. Where did you order the Mikalors from?

Reason I ask is.. 'the bay comes in packs of 4 and there arn't that many listings.So... I placed an order with 'Envy Performance' this morning at 10.30am, come 4pm they still hadn't dispatched so I gave them a call and the chap down the phone claims that Mikalor no longer have a UK Distributor  'You've ordered popular sizes there, might not have those in stock.. we'll let you know if we havn't'

They've still not contacted me to say no stock, probably going to cancel the order in the morning as I need them for Friday morning!!

I got mine off ebay back in May/June.

There were loads of sellers selling them seperate for £1.99 or something like that. I happened to stumble on someone selling a pack of 10 for £2.50

Thanks for replying bud!

10 for £2.50... Bargain tastical! I'll have another scout round and see if anyone sells them individually rather than in packs.
