Apple peepz :D

Ok so after messin about for hours on a mates iPad2...Im smitten. Hes not an ultra-nerd tho so thats why im on here since Im pretty clueless when it comes to Apple hardware lol.

(1) I hear that iPad2 cannot support flash - yet on the pad I played on I was watching YouTube and iPlayer. Is this a "hack" of some sort?

(2) It also does not have its on SD card slot, instead the pad i played on had this 3rd party piece of hardware that slotted into the recharging slot of the pad - on the back of it was an SD card slot. Worked flawlessly. Again...does this sort of thing need the iPads OS to be "tweaked" in some way?

(3) Other Appleheads I know say I should "wait for the iPad3 in 2012". Is this a good idea...considering iPad2 starts at £430...will be outdated fast? When do you think iPad3 will come out?

(4) Will I be able to install Opera browser on iPad2?

Thanks

1) It doesn't support Flash, the apps you mention have been written to work Apple's way. Not a hack

2) That sounds like the camera connection cable. Not a hack.

3) If you wait for the next big thing, then you'll never get any piece of tech

4) I think so, there used to be Opera for iOS, Im not sure if its still available, safari is fine anyway.

Bought one yet? :)

Thanks ^187 :)

Im lookin on Amazon right now :D...wondering which one to get 16GB...32GB...quite the price hike for the bigger memory one lol.

Yes youre right...in this game you will be waiting forever if you hold out for the next model. I guess part of me thought the 3rd version might be out in the first part of 2012.

Wait for the Asus Transformer Prime :D

Thats actually a neat-lookin piece of kit!

I've a 32GB but 16GB would have suited me fine, I don't keep lots of videos and music on mine at anyone time and swap stuff as I go but if an issue for you then buy the larger as once you've got it you're stuck with it unfortunately.

Not sure on release dates, the original iPad was launched in April 2010 (May internationally), the iPad 2 was released in March 2011 so maybe they will follow that Q1/Q2 pattern but it's still selling bucket loads so I would think the next one would follow in the summer. I wonder if they will launch the iPad 3 next... who knows with Apple... they may do a sort of S version like with the iPhone 4, wouldn't put it past them.

The iPad 3 is going to be the device to get - high res screen, better quality cameras and the next gen CPU & GPU. If you need one now though and can't wait then the iPad 2 is pretty awesome. I'm typing this message on mine - I haven't put it down since I got it last week.

I sold my iPad 2 in anticipation of the new model coming out first quarter of next year. There's supposed to be a bump in the screen res and no doubt a hardware refresh in most other areas too. With being only a few months away from this release I would perhaps just wait till then, it'll be worth it. :)

I bought a 32gb iPad 2 in the summer and am very pleased with it. The issue around no flash is not a major problem for me as the YouTube app, iplayer app etc play all the flash content I need.

Just make a rough list of what you want to use it for and then check it does what you need.

It's one of those things that just works.

Am sure people said this about the iPhone 5 and then they announced the 4 S.

I think it's almost certain that the iPad 3 will have a 'retina' display which most likely means a pixel doubling to 2048x1536.

If this is so then I'd expect a decent wait for it or else a decent price hike over the current model as I can't believe such a panel would be cheap to produce any time soon.

No, Flash is being phased out for mobile devices so YouTube and iPlayer along with many other video sites offer separate apps and video streams for iOs devices. This means you still get good battery life while being able to watch youtube/dailymotion/twitch.tv etc.

The camera connection kit allows you to connect SD cards and also USB devices like keyboards and soundcards.

You don't need tweaks for basic stuff, but you may need to jailbreak in order to do more advanced stuff like connect up a USB hard drive and access it.

If you want it now buy it now, otherwise you'll always be waiting for the next bit thing.

Yep, Opera is on the App store and is free. :)

Ahhhhhh I was close to a decision and then made the MISTAKE of going on Daily Tech:

http://www.dailytech.com/Report+iPad+3+to+Launch+Within+Months/article23495.htm

Now Im torn...wish Id just bought the darn thing from Amazon....but now Id be lying if I said what I read on Daily Tech hasnt affected me!!
That is only a rumour, but it seems likely itll be out before August 2012.

Seriously though I wouldn't wait - There will be something missing on the iPad 3 to tempt you to wait for the iPad 4 and the iPad 2 is awesome !!!!

Buy the cheapest 16gb one then trade it in or sell it and get Ipad 3. I love my Ipad 2. I do not rate Apples computers as I am a Pc gamer. But their phones and tablets are a step above Android imo.

Apple products hold value so well, buy now and sell to help fund an iPad 3 when / if its released.

I mean we'r on the eve of the third iteration if that report is to believed, and my iPad 1 Wifi 16gb is still worth over £200, its mad.

If you MUST get it for Christmas; ie. a present for yourself or something, then get the iPad 2. Think of all the days you are enjoying it while others wait slowly day by day until release date. Previous release dates would consistently suggest March or April 2012 so this I wouldn't say falls under the 'you will never get anything if you keep waiting or new stuff is always around the corner' because you get a better idea when it comes to iPads and iPhones compared to other devices out there. So if you think you can wait, then there isn't that long of a wait round the corner.

However, I've also been thinking hard for the past week or so about one. I should have really got it ages ago but I want one for Christmas so yea I might just go ahead with it! Once the iPad 3 comes out, I can give the iPad 2 to a family member and make them very happy, or sell it and contribute towards the cost of an iPad 3!

For me, it's not a matter if whether the iPad 3 is worth waiting for because I know it is, but it's whether I want an iPad 2 NOW or not :)

I don't see the fuss about Flash. You get some fancy animations on some sites, so what? Not like you can interact with it as well as a mouse cursor does on a computer. As long as it plays embedded YouTube, I'm happy with it.

Half the flash I find on websites tends to be advertising junk so quite happy for that not to work but I do find visiting the BBC website frustrating, I'm always on the sports and football pages and none of the clips work.

Are there any killer websites that really need Flash these days?

It doesn't allow much at all, pictures and that's about it.

Or wait the extra ~4 months and get w8 tablet, that will be much betterand have sd cards and hdmi.
