Interesting Bootup Pause

Hi,

Using rig in sig, but with 2x150GB Raptors, and 1x250GB Samsung SATAII.

On bootup i get a 20sec pause with no hard drive activity (during the windows kitt-car screen :D ) where the across screen thing still works.

I thought this was due to a slow Sammy as boot drive, but having popped the striped Raptors on there its the same with them as boot drive too.

I've used one of those bits of software that analyse and optimise the bootup process and that made no difference.

It doesnt bother me that much as its only boot-up that it affects - still, it would be nice to be able to fix it if possible though.

Any ideas as to why this is happening?

My initial guess would have been that it was initialising the Raid array but you say it happened before so it can't be that. Did you do a fresh install of Windows on the Raptors?

As a side point you might want to remove a couple of blank line spaces underneath your signature as I think it makes it illegal at the moment :)

1) I must admit i didn't - i did a naughty clone...

I'd suggest that you reformat totally then as that will probably sort it but if you aren't willing to do that maybe something in boot.ini is amiss although I don't know too much about software so I don't know for certain that is the right location. At a guess it may be looking for some hardware to initialise that isn't there or somehow some kind of command to wait a period has been inserted.

Aye - tried a re-install of windows on the RAID Raptors there.

Its not having it - hangs on installation. Perhaps my mobo has some sort of issue with SATA or RAID.

I know it has other issues so it wouldnt surprise me. I tried previously with 2x 74Gb Raptors and it failed installing an OS with those too.

New Mobo time methinks.

Cheers,

M

New motherboard is certainly one way of doing it :D I'd normally say it was a bit extreme but if the motherboard has other problems and since you seem to like the chance to play with new components then good luck.
