Interesting...

I'm not really bothered about 3D to be honest... I'd just prefer if they kept working on getting an even better picture quality...

Plus, at that price, you'd be stupid to get it now...

For a bit more info on these:

The tech sounds promising, but I bet it's the sorta thing i'd get a headache from. Suprised with the wide range of game support though. It'd be nice to see movies filmed like this someday, that would be cool (if it doesn't already exist?).

Movies already exist in 3D format (Beowolf, Journey to the centre of the earth and their are more movies that support this). Not worth the price tag imo unless you have disposable income.

The technology is meant to work well with still images and movies, but for games - very hit and miss.

Not worth it for the money really.

ITs almost a good attempt, it "might" be the best way to get 3d, but its still crap.

The glasses cause headaches, aren't particularly light, and if you go ahead and ***** say £300 extra getting a 120hz screen, of which afaik you can only get 1680x1050 versions (soon anyway) then you are buying a 120hz screen JUST to keep 60hz real in gaming because each eye see's only 60hz. So its essentially buying an expensive screen for a complete waste.

Its just stupid all around tbh. While it might look semi decent, and its so hard with reviews to quantify what they say is brilliant 3d, to what it would really look like until you try it yourself. The price is too large for a format that doesn't work in some games, works badly in other games and works great in some.

I'm thinking the basic 3d offered by other companies on a real 120hz screen would be a much better comprimise but meh, I'd just be happy with a 120hz screen tbh. Even the 120hz screens coming out just interpolate rather than do 120hz real, though they are supposed to be much better and smoother in games.

Wonder if oled's in the next year or two will bring about 120hz for real.

Most definately a try before you buy item also better than buying those 3d monitors from zalman cheaper too

Its most certainly not cheaper than a zalman monitor. From what I've heard almost every single company that makes panels of any kind will release a 3d model this year, and they'll have a £50-150 premium on them for the 3d layers they apply on top of a normal panel. While a 120hz screen you HAVE to have with the nvidia setups will apparently be carrying a massively higher premium than the 3d screens, aswell as the £100-150 for the nvidia glasses aswell. So the nvidia solution is a lot more expensive and will half your framerate.

I'd imagine we'll see 120hz versions of the 3d screens aswell that actually let you use 120hz. A comprimise I guess between 3d usefulness, value and full screen usage. LIkewise, no headaches makes it a win win.

A Inq review of the situation, ignoring Charlie's utter glee over Nvidia's plan, its fairly accurate in summing up the various methods.

SOmething where you pay through your teeth for 120hz, but can't use it, pay through your teeth for a pair of glasses and they give you headaches all for 3d which often works badly, even if it often works well, nice idea in theory, 3d that is, in reality, all the implementations suck pretty badly.

Abit gimmicky but cool enough. The best 3d still I've ever seen is nearly 25 years old and comes courtesy of Universal Studios; Captain Eo. There just isn't a market for it (yet?).

3D Porn is one step closer!

hahah :\ dunno if i would want to watch it, think of what could go wrong!!! :p

but yea, expensive!!!!!! and untill i could try one somewhere i wouldnt have the confidence in buying it to begin with :p

but does anyone remember this has been tried before? years and years ago some company did a similar thing with glasses you connect up to the pc to make the screen "3D" anyone remember these?

Some 3D glasses came with my Elsa geforce2 ultra a few years back. It wasnt that impressive and I seem to remember dodgy performance because the gfx had to be rendered twice or something - one for each eye.

Lol classic, just have an umbrella at hand, though I'm glad stuff isnt actually coming out if the screen.

I tried 3D glasses back a couple of years ago, - big waste of money, On my LCD screen at the time I dont think it was compatible, but it was advertised as such. It used a black crystal liquid display to block out each eye alternatively. It could never block out the image enough and simply could not fool my eyes to see in 3D.

But bring in circular Polarizing lenses, any photographer knows that if you look at a computer screen with a polarizing lens, you can block out all the light coming from the monitor - still seeing everything around it, desk etc- so Have 1 lens on each eye at different settings, and two pictures running at different wavelength (I have no idea if this is how it works actually) , a spare IMAX in your living room, and your good to go.
