interests and hobbies? (job application question)

most job applications I see have music, reading and computers + some sports and sometimes films.

I'd put down what I do, you put down what you do. If all you do is sit in a darkened room surfing and reading / posting on forums then make something exciting up ;)

bah, you're just too embarassed to admit what you write in that section. :p

obviously i meant specificaly what do you personally write in that field.
Was the rolleyes and the italicised specificaly (sic) really necessary there? You asked what I put and you got an answer.

As a silly question...

I generally put socialising with friends, playing football, running, going down the gym. Usual stuff.

Add in something that makes some sense about why you're going for the job role you're tailoring your CV for too.

Yes. Did you really think that answer was what I was looking for? In fact you deserve another rolleyes just for even suggesting that it was a sensible non-sarcastic answer. :p

I'm debating whether to ban you or whether to simply close your thread and edit your last post to say how much you adore me and aspire to be like me.

Ive been told to never put "Swimming" cos everyone puts it and it looks like you're fibbing :p
I put it on mine but under the context of 'teaching children of primary school age to swim'. And I DO go swimming! :D

I once put 'underwater yodelling' and 'playing the spoons' in there when I sent my CV to a friend to check. Unfortunately I forgot to amend that bit when I sent the CV off and the guy asked me about it in the interview!

However, I told him how it had happened and he gave me the job anyway ;)

My hobbies and interests have expanded recently so I could put a lot in this secton but...

generally put anything that shows skills and characteristics they are looking for i.e. if you have run a marathon, if you are involved in charity or voluntary work etc... things that make it seem as if you are engaged in structure activities outside of work...

Also, explain what aspects of your hobby are impressive...

Bad example...
Climbing, running, swimming, diving, music, computers games...

Better example

Climbing - outdoor persuit involving responsibility for the lives of fellow climbers

Running - Persistent running who works hard to increase athletic performance, training for next marathon

Diving - Active member of BSAC (British Sub-Aqua Club) and working towards qualification with the aim of helping others learn how to dive

Music - Writer and performer of music, having performed around London and small festivals around the country

Computers - Spend my spare time building and maintaining computers, includnig building computers for music studio use

That is how I could that part of my CV, although some of it are embelishments but all of it is designed to demonstrate how I am applying myself to existing structures outside work and aiming for social achievment... also how determined I am. I have left off my non-social hobbies including posting on OcUK (which seem to be a hobby in itself sometimes), watching movies etc...
