interference from on board sound

Afternoon All,

I have a Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 motherboard and have the latest chipset and audio drivers installed (the motherboard has a Realtek chip).

When I have my headphones in I can hear slight high piched noises, they usually come up when there's a lot of computer activity (HDD access, loading games/maps/levels etc, as well as using my mouse wheel etc).

What could be the cause for this? and if possible, is there a workaround for it?

Thanks,

David

Easy workaround - get a PCI card. It's not guaranteed but usually helps.

Sadly there are plenty of onboard soundcards that suffer from this issue due to the proximity of the sound path to other EMI causing circuits.
