Intermittent failing to load web pages issue (Draytek Vigor 2860)

Google DNS should be fine. I would tell your desktop machines to use Google DNS instead of the router and see how you get on.

hi guys

Ive been using google DNS and it hasnt helped the problem at all, pages still fail to respond and time out then work instantly when i refresh and its very frequent!

Check your connection speed. It sounds like you could be connecting at 100Mbps on the local network, hence only seeing around 80Mbps down. Right click the little 'computer' icon by the clock, choose 'Open Network & Sharing Center'. Click 'Change adapter settings' in the menu on the left and then right click your ethernet adapter and choose Status. It should say you're connected at 1Gbps, else you're either on a 100/10 NIC or your ethernet cable could need replacing.

Just a thought. :)

Hey there,
Checked your modem for you, The specs appear to be out a bit, Hence the 80mb,

Downstream RX Power 10.2 dBmV 10.4 dBmV 10.6 dBmV 10.5 dBmV 11.2 dBmV 10.9 dBmV 10.4 dBmV 9.8 dBmV

The above figures need to be as close to 0 as possible, betyween 0DBMV and 7DBmv is OK, These are sitting above ten, Unfortunately i cant fix this for you, You will require a engineer, Log a ticket with VM residential and Swansea centre will sort this out for you, When you speak to them ask for them to check the "levels" Engneer will be required to attenuate the service for you. This may be having a knock on effect with the other problem you are having, I would also check what rainmaker has mentioned above as well. Cheers.

thanks do i just call the regular VM customer support or is there a special process? Thanks for all your help!

call customer support, they said that they fixed my power levels over on their end but it didnt have any effect on speed so i got an engineer sent out for tomorrow. hopefully they can do something!

Sorry I run Win, Mac and Linux here but since the majority run Win I just automatically uploaded the same. Click the Spotlight icon at top right (or press CMD + spacebar) to open the search box. Type Network Utility and press enter. It'll open to show you the details of the connection, including link speed. Mine's blank because I'm on wireless for my MacBook Pro but you get the idea:

the engineer balanced the levels but the speed still cant get over 80mb and he couldnt work out why (direct from hub to laptop wired)

so i dont really know what to do about it now!

If you call 08454541111 they will be able to log you a call, You will be speaking to our offshore callcenter first(manilla) Just confirm you are plugged into the SH with one PC, No other machines attached, Once the call has been logged it will be passed to Swansea to troubleshoot for you.

Hey Infernouk, Do you know if they have left a support ticket open for you? I checked the levels and they are in spec now, But wierd why u cant get more then 80mb, Just a thought, im wondering if the engineers laptop had a 100mb network card in it? they dont hand out plush laptops to our engineers. You got a lappy with a gig netwrk card in?

As above OP, did you check your network is running at gigabit from the Network Utility to rule out a dodgy cable, broken network card port etc? It only takes one duff cable or device to bring your entire network down to 100Mbps, as it will always run to the abilities of the slowest member/node.

hey guys, we sorted it out by putting in another new draytek and that seems to have sorted the problem, got 120mb download, some pages still fail to load but its not as bad / too annoying so i guess its the best it will get!

Appreciate your help!
