My SATA Samsung HD501LJ is appearing in the safely remove hardware taskbar for some reason.

Also on deive manager under policies write cacheing and safe removal is greyed out on all drives except for the samsung

Is this normal for SATA (the rest of my drives are IDE) or does windows think it is an internal drive?

It's entirely normal although it seems to happen on nvidia boards more than Intel based ones. You won't be able to remove it if it's the boot drive anyway as there will always be open files preventing the removal.

Im running XP. How do you remove it from safely remove hardware? I have just cloned my C: onto the new drive where it shows up in safely remove hardware (and did before when it had nothing on)

edit - and what happens if i press 'stop' on the hard drive whilst its running as my Windows drive?
